Re: The Ashes 2017/18
I was reading on Fox last night that Renshaw's opening spot in under pressure. Apparently he doesn't 'force the tempo' sufficiently.
Lehmann and the selectors have to go if this is part of the thinking.
Incredibly, there’s increasing speculation that Matthew Renshaw is under pressure to retain his spot at the top of the order in the Test team — despite his outstanding entrance to the international arena in the past 12 months. The criticism is that the Australian team wants an opener who can force the tempo. An opener, perhaps, like Nic Maddinson. Maddinson is back refreshed and rejuvenated after a difficult summer in which he cracked into the Australian Test team before he was forced to step away to focus on his own mental health. His comeback is one of the great stories heading into the Shield season, and some hefty knocks could put him firmly in the conversation to reclaim the Test No. 6 spot. But instead of showing what he can do in the middle order, Maddinson will open alongside David Warner when NSW play South Australia. Conveniently, it gives selectors a chance to see how they could combine — maybe with one eye on the Gabba Test line-up.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
Maddinson's made 5 & 0 in the current shield game as an opener, so that might be enough to force his way in. Reckon it's line ball, it only took 15 balls for his 5 runs and 2 innings, so the tempo was solid.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Why you'd want anyone batting with Warner to force the tempo is beyond me.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
First shorten it from five days into just one day. Each side gets about 45 or maybe even 50 overs each.
Then limit the bowling and fielding spots to allow for more runs to be scored. Not allow negative bowling down the leg side should help too. Maybe let players after a No Balls hit the ball without being allowed out, except run out.
Flatten the wickets and gets the players to wear colourful clothing.
This 'exciting' format of the game would never become obsolete.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
I notice that Stokes has only been charged with ABH. Isn't that a lesser offence than GBH, which given the bloke ended up in hospital with facial injuries this seems a textbook case of being, so does anyone know why he cops went with the lesser of two evils? Does he get a discount because the he is Ben Stokes? They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment
