Re: The Ashes 2017/18

Let's play a game then. You can concede me a 600 run first innings and then try to beat me.

It will liven up. There looks like there is plenty of grass just itching to push up through the surface and crack the pitch up to me.

So what you are saying is I shouldn't shelve my ambition for test cricket just yet.

Re: The Ashes 2017/18

Cracking day of test cricket. England 4/196 at stumps after 80.3 overs. New ball has already been taken and will be crucial to the final result tomorrow morning.

Have to say I've been surprised by the steel shown by the new English batsmen. I saw a bit of them in their home tests earlier this year, and all of Stoneman, Vince (in 2016) and Malan looked underwhelming against lesser opposition than the Aussies - thought they'd be lambs to the slaughter against the best bowling attack in the world but they all hung tough today (Vince's run out brain fade aside). Aussies bowled well except for Hazlewood, who was very poor by his normal high standards. Lyon was fantastic and Cummings bowled a brilliant spell either side of tea.Last edited by Sedat; 23-11-2017, 06:51 PM."Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"Comment

I can live with that missed chance by Paine especially given he hasn't been keeping much of late. He's got a couple of tests to get it right both behind and in front of the stumps.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

A run out in Test cricket for Australia is about as rare as an Essendon finals win. I'm in shock.

I don't think there's a single part of the game that Lyon hasn't improved out of sight in since he first arrived on the scene. It's a real credit to him.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment

Umpires have long had it in for Australia and outright cheat against us. The only suprise to me is Alam Daa couldn't find a reason to cheat us first, or it's more likely that we go to appeal only to remember who the umpire is and decide not to bother. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Why does he have multiple chances to get it right? He certainly hasn't been selected on formComment

Re: The Ashes 2017/18

Yep I agree. It's the height of stupidity to pick a wicketkeeper who isn't even keeping for his own state and then expect him to find form during a test match. We can't continue to this "she"ll be right mate" attitude to the keeping job, dropping players after a couple of matches and picking non keepers who are "OK at keeping but really good batsmen" because wicketkeeping is as specialist role as batting or bowling and this arrogant attitude of the selectors toward wicket keeping is costing us wickets, even yesterday catches were falling short of the slips cordon because Paine was standing too far back because the selectors couldnt see what the the problem would be if they bought a keeper into the team that hasn't been keeping enough to have his eye in. He's going to need to get his eye in during the match so of course catches are going to fall short of the slips cordon because they line up behind the wicket keeper.

Is their a ex wicket keeper on the selection panel? They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Felt for Lyon - he was excellent yesterday. I don't think there's a bloke that's had more chances shelled off his bowlingComment

Re: The Ashes: Test 1, The Gabba

Yeah it's a bit unclear, I was meaning keepers in general being played for their batting skills rather than their keeping. Ive no problem that he is the worse batsmen out of all the candidates. Batting like Gilchrist is a bonus and shouldn't count if you are a lousy wicketkeeper.

From what I can make out the selectors are picking the bloke on his keeping skills in this case, which I'm fine with-Payne's errors yesterday were down to a lack of conditioning. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment
