Great partnership. Disciplined batting, with patience and good ball selection. Throw in a run out and I feel like I'm watching cricket from 20 years ago!

Good day for the Marsh brothers - Mitch hit a nice 140 in the Shield.

Let's hope Shaun can go on with it today, he needs to get through that first hour.

Piss weak isn't close to describing that from Marsh.

Meanwhile Glen Maxwell is up to 278 off 317 against NSW.

Watching it now, reverse sweeps and getting full value for anything that passes the infield.

But Paine made a solid 13 in addition to Marsh gifting his wicket away. Perspective.

As soon as England posted 250 we were out of this match. We haven't picked one batsman who's technique can cope with a swinging ball and England's bowlers swing the ball better than any other set of bowlers in cricket history (and I mean that 100%) *!*!*!*! knows what our tactics in this match were, presumably bowl England out twice for under 250 because our batsmen making more than that is just living in lala land.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I think you've thrown the baby out with the bathwater there.

It's clearly two pretty even sides with better bowling than batting. They've put some very good plans in place on a pitch that's suited their more docile attack. We've struggled to put partnerships together.

They're clearly ahead of the game but we've got a better spinner on a pitch that's taking turn. We're far from out of it and I'd have us in a good place even if we're 30 runs behind.

And in no way is this England attack better than the one that toured in 2010-11.

This is really good stuff. You can tell Root didn't want to go back to Anderson and Broad but these two have forced him into it.

There's such a big gap between them and the rest of the English attack, it's easy to forget they're on the wrong side of 30 with massive amounts of bowling under their belts. The more Root has to go back to them, the more they'll be blunted.

Hanscomb averages over 50 in Tests, is an excellent fieldsman and made 82 and 16 not out in his last Test before this. Bit early to be calling for his head after 1 failure.

Unbeaten on 141, what a performance.

All out for 328. Handy lead
