Two fielders from the past who may not make top 10 but were exceptionally good were Bruce Yardley and John Dyson. Unbelievable catchers.

Dyson took that amazing catch on the boundary didn't he.

Have we forgotten Dean Jones here. From memory he was amazing at covering the field, throwing and run outs.

He's a great catcher for sure. Not sure about his run out/covering field stuff? Waugh wasn't very fast either but catching and run outs high.

He did indeed. Plus there was another one in a one day game fielding at square leg (or was it mid wicket). He was a goal keeper and was remarkable at diving and stopping the ball.

good call on Deano - he was very good as you have pointed out. Not top 10 but very good nonetheless

Of course the greatest Fieldsman is not just about great catches, but also the actual fielding including stopping runs, plus the runouts.

Cameron Green could enter this conversation over the coming years, excellent gully fielder.

Glenn Maxwell is a fantastic all round fieldsman. Rocket arm and has taken some brilliant catches, particularly the boundary line throw back into play that has become commonplace these days, especially in T20 cricket.

That's why I have Richards as on high in the order. He was an absolute gun cover fieldsman in his early years and then great in the slips
He wasn't someone a batter would want to steal a single from.

Brian McMillain never dropped one catch at slips - not even a difficult one. He gobbled them all up. As a full-time slipper, he would be right up there with anyone.

Mark Waugh has to be top 5 - he was outstanding in all facets.

Maxi is a good shout. He's a real talent in the field.

For all Mark Waugh's brilliance he dropped a fair few sitters.

That's the only doubt on him. He made so many impossible catches look so easy but he did cough up some easy ones

I'm going to try hard not to make a list containing the names of ten Australian slips fielders.

The first thing I'll say is I think at the international level Australia takes fielding far more seriously than other countries. Or at least we did but other nations are catching up and that's why Jadeja and Yuvrav Singh make my list.

                          Jonty Rhodes
                          Rick Darling
                          Ian Botham
                          Yuvrav Singh
                          Steven Fleming
                          Mark Waugh
                          Doug Walters
                          Ravi Jadeja
                          Bob Simpson
                          Derek Randall
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I've got to challenge Rick Darling Twodogs
A very good cover fieldsman but hardly in the elite category. I'd say the same for Derek Randall

That catch Derek Randall plucked fully stretched out in that day night one dayer was just unbelievable.

Just off the top of my head,
                                1. Andrew Symonds - he wasn't a slipper, but is comfortably the best ring fielder I've seen. Agile, fast and an unreal arm - his diving stops were some of the best things to watch in short-form cricket in the noughties.
                                2. Ravi Jadeja
                                3. Paul Collingwood
                                4. Glenn Maxwell
                                5. Ricky Ponting - great all-rounder - he slides down for me slightly as he had the occasional slips drop in him
                                6. Herschell Gibbs
                                7. AB De Villiers
                                8. Michael Clarke - young Clarke in the ring with Andy Symonds was elite
                                9. Glenn Phillips
                                10. Martin Guptill
