    Come the first Ashes test.
Don't mind that. Follow it with Smith, Head, Patterson/Pucovski and we start to look a little more solid.

Hopefully Head gets his 100 too. Fantastic turnaround.

*And even then we started 3-30

If Travis Head was the kid (that he is) with an experienced batting lineup around him, you'd say he's had a really impressive start to his test career.

For example, he was about the same age as Michael Clarke when he debuted, except Clarke had Langer, Hayden, Katich, Martyn and Lehmann batting ahead of him, with Ponting out injured.

Doesn't say that in the scorebook.

"No ordinary" Joe would still be stuck playing for his state if it wasn't for the senior players for the Proteas knowing exactly what to look for in Cape Town.

The scorebook only ever tells half the story.

It was not intended as a slight on Burns though - it's a well deserved whack for the Australian batting group as a whole. I wanted Burns opening from the start of the summer with Finch down the order. We will also never know if Finch could have been more successful batting in a more appropriate position.

Very happy to see Head cash in yesterday. As Burns said, hopefully it gives him confidence he belongs and opens the floodgates.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Nice to see Patterson cash in and score a ton after being dropped first ball.

Weird declaration - no idea why you wouldn't try to tack on another hundred and put them in around this mark of the next session, or you know, hit out a bit after taking a million balls to get set for a 45.

But I guess it's more important to look unselfish by declaring immediately before a milestone. Not that I'm saying that's what happened.

Agree, still another 28 overs before the next new ball to cash in

Sri Lanka are struggling today and Australia clearly on top of a depleted team

This Sri Lankan team is the worst to tour Australia since the 80's. A truly awful starting 11.

They'd be lucky to draw a match against a state team. I'm sure some will love that we won something this summer, and made some hundreds, but really it's not any consolation against this rabble.

We didn't enforce the follow on but have lost 3 cheap wickets so far. Khawaja has a chance to post something decent

He has to. Surely can't afford another poor innings.
