Been looking forward to this. All our matches are on SBS as well as some of the finals.

Australia has a pretty strong team but not the depth of the US.

A deep run in this tournament could be colossal for women’s sport in this country. Some buzz, some high ratings, and some subsequent sponsorship interest could (and should) really kick things up a gear. Our women’s team deserves some attention.

It would be great to see Australia have a go at getting hosting rights somewhere in the near future.

It’s exciting, and the team has the potential to get into the pointy end of the tournament. Looking forward to it.

What a dogs breakfast that was. A lack of class and composure in the front half capped off with a terrible piece of keeping to let in the winner in the 94th minute.
                  A mess.

Italians so rough, what a stop start game. Yes bad keeping to allow that last minute goal.

If I were to compile a list of Top 5 nightmare scenarios in sport, losing to the Italians with one of the last kicks of the game would definitely rate.

                      What a shambles.

Australian soccer has mastered the art of the late, heartbreaking loss throughout its history.

The Americans are copping a bit of backlash following a few of their over teh top goal celebrations in their 13-0 rout of Thailand.

It is usually ettiquette to keep celebrations fairly low key when you start to head North of about 5-0, but to see them hamming it up for goals 9, 10, 11 etc. was particularly brutal. I think they rightly deserve a bit of heat.

May as well have a mercy rule then. Call the game off when it gets to 7 or 8-0.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I think that is an over the top response, call off the game because they shouldn't overdo celebrations at 10-0?. They rightly should have gone for the jugula in terms of play from whistle to whistle, to ease off (or start mucking around) would have been insulting.

But I think a high 5 and a well done on the way back to the middle is all you need when a goal is scored at 10-0. Hell, if you want to run to the crowd for a high five, I am ok with that too. But a few of the celebrations weren't your normal 1-0 run to the corner flag and jump all over each other, there was a fair bit of piss-take about them (that you wouldn't usually see in a close scoreline). To see the substitutes performing some weird dance routine on the side of the pitch, for example, is in bad taste I think.
