Mind you, England have found a player in Archer. Windies must be soewing that their set up has seen him choose to play for the Poms.
He's having a fantastic debut with the ball.

Smith in some pain after getting one in the forearm from Archer.

And he's pressing on even though he looks like he can barely hold the bat.

The pace he generates off such a short run is astounding.

Steve Smith could further stamp his legacy if he gets another 100 here.
I'd almost be inclined to suit up Steve Waugh ahead of Khawaja or Head leading into the 3rd....clearly joking, but his mental focus is just what we need right now!

That's a very awful hit Smith has taken, reminiscent of a similar kind that this thread sadly recalls.
              I hope he is alright.

Archer is a bonafide star; England fortunate to secure his services. He's the very thing the Windies need right now.

I missed that. That sounds like distinctly poor form. I thought much more highly of him than that. Hopefully it was an inexplicable brain fade on his part. Would be a shame if one so talented was a flog of the highest order.

This sums it up from Liam Pickering:

For all Archer’s bravado & short shit ( plus the horrendous coverage of it all ) he didn’t get Smith out - he hit him with a bumper. Well done champ. You turn your back & walk back to your bowling mark giggling like a school kid & look at the scoreboard - you didn't get him out

I idolised the late 70's to mid 90's Windies pace attack not only for their frightening capabilities, but also equally for the respect and dare I say it, the honour the paid to their opponents.
There was never such display of joy when their skill caused injury (ie Garner breaking Coney's arm). They were always respectful.
I hope Archer's learning curve is steep.

If Root brings Archer on now, a massive moment looms.
Seems way too soon. Smith could forge here an amazing legacy, not just in this match but for the ages
Not sure I've ever wanted a player to score a ton more than i have right now with Smith.
