Fourth Ashes Test - Old Trafford - 4h to 9th September 2019
Re: Fourth Ashes Test - Old Trafford - 4h to 9th September 2019
More than a rumour it seems that Marsh will come in. Personally it smacks of panic and Australia casting an alluring eye to Stokes and wowing at what an All ROunder can do. We forget though that Stokes, Flintoff, Botham were not just All Rounders they were sensational All Round cricketers in their own right. Marsh has tecnhnique problems against a seaming which Broad and Woakes will expose. The fact he is a right hander will not change this.
AS for Starc, I think the time is right. Hazelwood and Cummins will stay, so really its a choice between Starc, Siddle and Pattison. My feeling is that if Starc plays then they want Marsh's bowling to help stem the flow of runs.

Relax everyone, Mitch Marsh isn't playing:
Australian XII: Tim Paine (c, wk), David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle, Mitch Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon.
In: Smith, Starc
Out: Khawaja, Pattinson
Presumably Starc and Siddle to vie for the final fast bowling spot.

I would have gone for Harris, but interesting that Khawaja made more runs and captained in the tour game.
64 (117) for Harris (run out) v 72 (157) for Khawaja (bowled). Not too much between those figures really.
I'm somewhat surprised that have gone with Harris over Khawaja but as you pointed out his record in England is poor. It's a shame he couldn't go on at any stage in the first 3 tests as he often looked in good touch but would then just get out. Hopefully Harris can take his opportunity.
