Didn't he break his jaw and keep batting? Apart from the mental health problems he goes alright I reckon.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Re: Our 2019/20 Summer of Test cricket

The Aus A squad that will play Pakistan in a 3-day tour game gives a fair few hints as to what the selectors are thinking:

Alex Carey (capt/wk), Marcus Harris, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja, Will Pucovski, Travis Head, Nic Maddinson, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson, Sean Abbott, Riley Meredith

Think that on the batting side Warner, Labuschange, Smith, Wade and Paine are locked in, with an opener and number 6 spot vacant.

I think there'll be a bit of a bat-off between Harris, Burns and Khawaja for the second opener spot. Personally, I'm picking Burns but think they'll go with whoever gets runs.

Six is interesting. Looks to be between Head and Pucovski. Head's form is dire, so I'd go Pucovski (and this should be a summer to get a few younger guys around the squad).

I really like that bowling lineup. It's a great reward for the next crop of guys that are pushing the big four. Riley Meredith is one I'd like to see get some short-form international cricket this year. If you haven't seen him play, he's basically Brett Lee minus 5km/h or so. Stats aren't quite there yet, but he's a fun cricketer.

Bad timing for Kurtis Patterson to have injury and form issues when there is a spot on offer. Thought he looked to have something to work with.

Would desperately like to see Matt Renshaw regain some semblance of form. We badly need to uncover a solid opening bat.

Completely agree on both. Think if Patterson had shown any signs of form or fitness, we'd be seeing him at 6. I'm still confident he'll be a pretty good test cricketer after this bump.

Renshaw needs to get back to doing what he does well - bat time. He's tried to expand his game for more success in the short forms and he's bowling a bit of offspin these days, but the guy just needs bulk Shield runs. His first-class average is down to 35, he averaged 20 in the Shield last year and didn't make a ton from a full season...he's not far off being left out of the Bulls side.

He's a 23-year-old with ten first-class hundreds (for context, only two years older than Pucovski with 42 more games and 6 more tons) but we haven't seen him hit Shield runs for a long time.

The side I would select for the first test against Pakistan is

            Harris
            Warner
            Burns
            Smith
            Labuschagne
            Wade
            Paine
            Nesar
            Cummins
            Lyon
            Hazelwood

What I think will be the selected side is

            Warner
            Burns
            Labuschagne
            Smith
            Head
            Wade
            Paine
            Cummins
            Starc
            Lyon
            Hazelwood

Close to what I expect. Maybe Head misses if they want Puk in the side. I prefer Lamb at 5 rather than 3.

I like Neser, but he's not a better quick than Pattinson, Richardson, Tremain, Bird, Sayers or Starc in typical Australian Test conditions.

Australia A bowlers struggled on the first day against the Pakis. Neser and Meredith with some early breakthroughs, but an unbeaten 276 run stand since then for 3/336. Doubt any of the bowlers for the first test will be found here.

Pattinson is still struggling with the fitness required, Richardson is coming back nicely I think Neser selection in the Ashes tour puts him ahead of Tremain, Bird and Sayer

His point of difference with Starc is that he keeps it tight although Starc being a left arm quick is his strength

Is Hazlewood, Cummins and Neser in the same attack a bit too 'samey'? He's more of a genuine swing bowler and hits a fuller length than the other two but it's still a right arm quick in that 135-140kp/h range.

I thought Richardson and Neser were both really unlucky in that first hour yesterday. Harris dropped a sitter as well fairly early on.

Neser on his home pitch the Gabba will be a handful. I accept that he is similar to Hazlewood and to a lesser extent Cummins though.

I remember hearing various commentators on the Ashes tour saying he was bowling very well in the nets and was really hurrying the batsman up

One other bowler I'd have him ahead of is Siddle. Neser is also a handy batsman

Pattinson, Meredith, Winter, Sayers, Bird, J.Richardson and Tremain really round off a great array of quicks for us.

Fair to say that the possible Australian batsmen have done themselves no favours in putting their best feet forwards for a batting spot.

The batting line up for the first test isn't any clearly after Australia A's first innings debacle. Only batter that seemed to play ok has been Bancroft, who came in at six.

Saw some interesting stats from analyst Tom O'Neil on Twitter earlier - over the last 3 years, Marcus Harris averages 82.2 within Victoria in the Shield and 32.8 outside the state.
