Our 2019/20 Summer of Test cricket

They say competition for spots is a good thing and if that expression holds value I'm not sure how good we will be this summer

Batsman after batsman are failing to produce good innings especially if you take away the performances of a few batsmen that absolute road of a wicket at the Junction Oval

Warner has had just one good score and has failed again today
Mitch Marsh was batting well but allowed his frustrations to get the better of him and broke his hand punching a defenseless wall.
Handscomb and Maxwell have failed to produce and Travis Head hasn't given the selectors a reason to doubt themselves after dropping him for the 5th test in the Ashes.
Wade has been average but is probably safe
Khawaja had an opportunity to remind the selectors and hasn't fired a shotand you can just see that we will go back to Shaun Marsh

Only Labuschagne, Smith and Harris who played in the last Test should be selected but I would bet Warner and Wade are almost sure things as well in the selectors minds

Still we have so many batsman failing to deliver at the moment

There is a bit more stability on the bowling with Starc getting a 5 for and Michael Neser performing well

Neser should be selected this summer but I wonder if the selectors are prepared to go with him infront of the pace quartet of Hazlewood, Pattinson, Starc and Cummins. Siddle might still be around the mark as well. Nick Winter and Riley Meredith could also be a consideration

I'm looking forward to the summer of cricket but I think it could be a frustrating one

Pucovski is the only 'young gun' pressing hard for a batting spot so far.

      He is a gun.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

He failed to take his chance today, a score of 50 would have placed him in a strong position but I think we will have a Steve Bradbury type finish with just a couple of batsman staying upright before the selectors call the names

Personally I'd make Pucovski play a full season before selecting him in an Australian side

Shaun Marsh's first first-class double century against a strong Victorian bowling line up must put him closer to the front of the line. Justin Langer was there yesterday to watch it all take place.

Please no. There's a fair chance he would make some runs at home but really what is the point of selecting a 36 year old that has failed over and over again?

Couldn't agree more. I would prefer to give young Will a go

His track record of stringing games together isn't impressive. As talented as he is I'd like to see some more resilience than he has displayed so far

Victorian young gun Will Pucovski on brink of call-up to Australian Test squad

Justin Langer has hinted Victorian wunderkind Will Pucovski is again on the verge of a coveted Test debut with the Australian coach declaring the young gun “well and truly” in selectors’ thoughts.

Pucovski has started his summer in style with a hundred in the Vics’ Sheffield Shield opener against SA, followed by an impressive 64 against WA.

And Langer has kept a close eye on the 21-year-old’s form.

                      SHANE WARNE’S FIRST TEST 12
                      David Warner
                      Usman Khawaja
                      Marnus Labuschagne
                      Steve Smith
                      Matthew Wade
                      Will Pucovski
                      Tim Paine
                      James Pattinson
                      Pat Cummins
                      Nathan Lyon
                      Josh Hazlewood
Mitchell Starc (12th man decided after seeing conditions at the Gabba)

My concern with this is the way Warner and Khawaja are currently batting we will be 2 down in no time as per the Ashes. I would probably lean to giving Harris another crack before Ussie. Happy with the rest. Starc to play and Patto to carry the drinks.

Warner will get a go because of his record here in Australia. If he fails after a couple of tests he has to be shown the door. Probably for good. Although the trouble with that is the lack of quality options at the top of the order.

it's time to move on from the likes of Khawaja, Sean Marsh & the like. Can't count on them. Mitch Marsh should never play as a top 6 bat ever again. Don't mind if he comes in at 8 if his bowling form warrants it but he has had enough chances in the top order. I'd rather see Burns, Pattinson, Head be given those chances in the top 6.

Personally I think Warner needs to find form before he is allowed back in. His first class innings have been dreadful for quite some time now.

If you ignore the ton he hit less than 2 weeks ago.

He isn't in great touch but it seems none of the other top order candidates are either.

At least we are traveling better than South Africa who have been left thoroughly discombobulated by India.

I think Shane Warne nails it, with 11/12. I can't see Khawaja getting a gig. Harris has scored a ton and 60 odd. Burns would be the other I would watch. I think both are ahead of Khawaja.
