Mike Hussey was 30 and Gilchrist 29 Labuschagne is 25 years old he is years ahead at this age than anyone. Gilchrist I think was 24 but only played one day era ubtil his turn came I still think he could have played test cricket as a batsman earlier.

Thinking about it Hookes came into the side in a blaze of publicity and made some good contributions but only ever made one century in his entire career. Greg Blewett made tons in his first couple of innings but never has a player came from nowhere and bullied attacks like Manus. Maybe Charlie Bannerman?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Just quietly, I don't think the first ever test match is a fair comparison...

Looks like NZ have found an opening pair worth persisting with in Latham/Blundell. Nothing flashy but have been able to blunt our pace attack so far. Lyon is going to have a big workload today.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Gritty performance and a bit more in line with what we should expect from NZ teams
Big day for both sides, NZ will be hoping to to build on yesterdays performance and we will of course be hoping for some quick wickets

NZ are 6 down and the Aussies are unlucky that Pattinson was denied a wicket after a review on where his front foot landed. The NZ bowlers have bowled every day of the tour so far and they should be determined to at least bat out the last session of the day

Australia lead by 240, if they can make 80 runs in the first session tomorrow and another 60 after lunch (70 to 80 minutes of slogging) they can declare with a lead of around 380 giving NZ a target of a bit over 4 sessions to get the runs

It's important to get the win

                            Tremendous performance
New Zealand were atrocious, but a great win nevertheless.
The bowling is just exceptional, and if we could find another batsmen or two .
Big test now will be the spin of the sub continent

When/where is our next test series? Looking online I can't find anything in the coming year - only ODIs and T20s with the T20 world cup in October.

Do we really not play test cricket again until next summer?

                                This is my understanding

Australian cricket team in Bangladesh in 2020. The Australian cricket team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in June and July 2020 to play two Test matches. The Test series will form part of the inaugural 2019–21 ICC World Test Championship.
