First Test Australia v India - December 17-21 2020, Adelaide Oval
If you read the article a bit deeper it appears the selectors have used the injury to Abbott (we had 6 quicks in the squad which was too many anyway) to bring in Henriques but to actually replace Pucovski
Henriques comes in for Will Pucovski, the young batter who was ruled out of the first Test after he was concussed on the final day of the first tour match at Drummoyne Oval last week.

never in playing cricket and watching cricket have I ever seen that! Brutal.
Big thumbs up though to the non-striker who didn't even contemplate a run but dropped his bat and went straight over to Green! Hopefully a sign as to how this series is going to be played.

The first thing I noticed too, genuine care and acted like it was the most important thing in his life at that time - which should be the normal response.
Bumrah the cheeky devil has one goal in mind though, says hi to the bowler and then makes sure he taps in.
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I'll forgive Bumrah....because the 2nd thought hat crossed m mind was whether an Australian team from a different era would have run out the non-striker.......

Langer has declared Green will play so long as he passes concussion protocols. Has ruled out Labuschagne opening so it looks like Wade will open with either Harris or Burns.

Got to leave Labuschagne at 3.

Burns will open with Wade. Harris won't be playing.
That's the inference from what Tim Paine said but it's not official and won't be announced until the toss I believe.
Some players have the track record to be selected almost regardless of form. If Steve Smith had posted similar numbers to Burns you would still pick him. Not sure what Joe has ever done to find himself in such a privileged position? I do admit that no other player really demands selection, but I can not agree with a non-established player being selected when so totally bereft of form.
Hopefully he magically recaptures some touch but the odds must surely be against him. If Burns has another double failure I think the selectors may be left looking a little silly.

Wow, Burns must be Crickets version of Josh Bruce, automatic selection despite not displaying a compelling level of form
Good luck to him though
If he makes the starting 11, his selection makes a mockery of Sheffield Shield form and runs being the ultimate currency. He simply cannot be selected.

He has made 4 test centuries which seems a fair return when he has an average of 38 but if you look a bit deeper 2 have been against NZ, 1 against WI and 1 against SL.
Cricket Australia schedule Shield games before the tests as a way of identifying the right mix of player but as you say it all comes to nothing when someone like Burns is likely to be selected with something like 50 runs for 10 innings.
Harris has scored runs at the Shield level this year but apparently is a long shot to make the starting 11
Selection is a punt so lets hope we back a winner
