It was mutual until an unsolicited dick pick was sent. From the HUN article:

The text ended with a wink-face emoji.

Paine then sent what is described in correspondence as an unsolicited “dick pic”, before asking the woman: “Finish me off right now!!!”

The woman has claimed she was taken aback and found it offensive.

Talk is one thing, and you notice in that talk the person substantially escalating things was clearly Paine. But unsolicited images of genitalia is another level.

Consenting adults can do whatever they like. But you don't send pictures of your dick to someone unless it's agreed that you would/ it's asked that you would. You can, of course, though you just have to accept the receiving party might not think your dick is as great as you think it is and might be offended by it which looks to be the case here.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I wouldn't have thought so but he would lose a few points with his batting prowess compared to others.

      You would still pick him?

It sounds like he took it further than she expected. He should have known better.
For a sport with such a strong women's competition I'm not sure who well this will be received.

To me he's the best gloveman in the country and his competition would be Carey or Wade and im not sure they add too much more with the bat. So he stays for mine.

I'd like to see him gone for this controversy, but if Warner and Smith can still get games I guess Paine won't have a problem keeping his spot.

He's a couple of weeks away from turning 37 and has missed a lot of cricket with his neck injury. I don't think he is clearly the best keeper in the country and his batting isn't superior to some other candidates. His clear point of difference was his captaincy and that made him untouchable so while I don't think we will drop him we really should consider it now.

As a side note Gideon Haigh made an interesting point last week around that when Pat Cummins 1st played for Australia he was 19 and the youngest player in test team. At 29 he was the youngest player for us in the T20 world cup final.

I know that shouldn't necessarily count against Paine being selected but perhaps it's time for CA to freshen up this team.

I think I read that Cummins is the first fast bowling captain for us in 63 years and I think someone like Carey might give him better support than Paine. I'd be picking Inglis based on the longer term picture though.

Do we know why/how this all suddenly came into the public spotlight now?

Not that I am aware. It is strange as apparently the media have known about it for a number of years but have chosen not to publish until now for some reason. The woman could have sold her story if she had wished but clearly hasn’t done so to this point.

Now that is a very good question. Someone has an axe to grind as this ort of stuff doesn't get released otherwise.

Her side of the scandal will eventually come out. The initial complaint apparently came months after the incident and when she was being stood down for theft.
There is also some speculation that she was asking for 40K to pay her legal costs. Of course Paines brother in law might also lose his his job for the same incident with the same lady.

Regardless of what prompted this, the cover up and decision making by CA isn't a good look.

He has to be selected for mine. I know we like to have a left armer, but I just don't think Starc is an automatic selection based on recent form, and based on his anaemic showing last home test season.

I'd go with Cummins, Hazelwood, Richardson, and Lyon with Green as further bowling backup for the first test.
Lyon needs a big series just quietly too. Would be good if some other spinners could put some pressure on him for his place by season end.

Paine almost a certainty to be keeper.

Is it a cover up? I mean protecting a person's privacy during an industrial relationship proceeding is actually part of their duty of care no matter who it is. The fact that they assessed the facts and came to the conclusion that it was consensual and that at worst it was an error of judgement doesn't make it a cover up.

Personally Paine has been hung out to dry for an error in judgement that happened in his recent past, was dealt with at the time. Sure he should have been a better person and not engaged or sent the Dick Pick, but if the exchange was consensual then actually its a personal matter between Paine and his missus and the staffer involved.
