    A reminder:

Lillee was always stirring the pot. If he wasn't kicking Javed or ignoring protocols when meeting the Queen, he was wagering against his own team at Headingly in 1981 or batting with this monstrosity and ruining the ball in the process. I'll never forget the massive ping sound whenever he hit the ball in this short-lived innings.

My first bat was a Stuart Surridge Jumbo. The problem with it, I was a skinny little runt and I could hardly lift it. Didn't stop me
My next was a Gray Nicolls 4 scoop. It had the twin scoops for the top half of the bat, then the normal 'rooftop', then there was a little bit at the bottom reverting back to the twin scoops. I used this bat for quite a while until I ended up getting sponsorship from Gray Nicolls in my mid-teens.

I always really wanted a Kookaburra Bubble. Not the 90s one they just retroed, the 2002 model that Brett Lee and Justin Langer used. I completely bought that there was an actual bubble under the wood that made you hit the ball further.

            A second hand SS Jumbo.

I remember getting hold of a Duncan Fernley and thinking I was king dick.

I'm quite confident that if anybody from Grey Nicholls had have seen me bat they would have offered me a sponsorship.

I say sponsorship - more so they would have paid me not to use their equipment.

                  Very impressive.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Does anyone remember the Kookaburra Kahuna that Ricky Ponting used for a while in the mid-2000s? It had the black backing that was banned pretty quickly as it was graphite reinforced.

I went down to Rebel Sports and bought a Kashmir timber version as an 11-year-old when the 2005 Ashes was on. It was a shocking stick.

Kashmir is that Pakistani willow isn't it I had a bat made from it that I used a couple of times and then donated it to the club as a kit bat.

First stick I had was an SS cover driver purchased from Jack Collins's sports store in Footscray for the princely sum of $27.00 gained from my paper round around 1978. Moved on to a County and finished with a Slazenger that had a magnificent sweet spot. Never felt the love for the Gray Nicolls brand as every bat that I ever borrowed had a shocking jarring sensation. Jack Collins must have made a fortune from his store as everyone around my area seemed to buy all of their sporting equipment there. Obviously all local sports stores died a quick death when Rebel came along.

Sims Sports in Puckle Street Moonee Ponds is still going strong, but they're mostly shoes.

Thats why I donated the one I had to the club. It felt okay when I picked it up at the shop, nice balance, decent heft, the handle felt just right. But the moment a ball hit it in the nets I just knew it was a piece of crap

If I remember him correctly the guy who sold the cricket equipment at Jack's sports store was a guy called John Dodd who captained the lower grades at Footscray cricket club and mentored quite a few good players there.
