Pretty quickly, hard to argue with a 1st slips catch. He might have done a corrective practice shot before leaving the crease.

For a very good player he's really found ways to not cash in on what should have been a productive summer for him.

Is the clock ticking on Carey? Another soft dismissal and his average is now hovering just above 30.

Are we prepared to make hard calls? This was a summer where the batters were supposed to fill up with runs but there have been a lot of soft dismissals.

Is there much pressure from below? It seems most shield keepers at the moment have similar low 30s first class averages.

Inglis would be the one but it's hard to talk much about his first-class form when he's coming up on a year without a red-ball game.

Excellent knock on a very tough wicket. He's repaid a bit of faith today.

He sure wasn't going to risk Hazelwood facing the first ball tomorrow whilst still in the 90s! Good game sense to move from 50 to 100 in under 50 balls with wickets falling around him. Should have known he would make runs on a pitch that colour!

It seems being able to go back and play a shield match (and hit a century for WA) was of great benefit. Pity it didn't help Marnus.

Absolutely - I think he's a fairly nervy guy so swings for the fences in the 90s. He did the same in his last ton for WA - think he went 6, 6 to get there as well.

He certainly has. I wasn?t at all convinced about his selection as a #4 but what would I know. A very good knock given nearly everyone else?s failure

I think you retain a keeper who keeps well if they're averaging above 30. Our issue is depending on him, when really any first innings runs he scores should be considered cream.

That's not to say he shouldn't be tighter with his batting, though not sure whoever else might come in would be more disciplined.

Excellent display by the openers, albeit not that sexy. Soft hands saw them avoid being dismissed and enabled them to weather the storm on what was a disgraceful wicket that NZ didn't take advantage of.

Cameron Green put in one of the best knocks we've seen for a long time. Fifty off forty-something balls in the last session as everyone fell around him. Amazing effort.

Will be interesting to see how our quicks use the deck in the morning. NZ didn't hit the top of off stump, and I read only seven of the first 130 deliveries of the day were due to hit the stumps as it was. Not good enough, and we need to be better than they were.

Nice gritty performance from Smith and Khawaja. Great knock from Green. I don't have an issue with Carey. Which other wicket keeper in world cricket currently is averaging significantly more? We have seen the impact a batsman/part time keeper can have on a series......think Johnny Bairstow.

For me the question is whether it's time to talk about Labuschagne?

Carey is getting himself out which is disappointing when you consider that he should have been trying to support Green.
I dont know if there is a better option in our wicket keeper ranks but he's not performing well enough to be a walk up start
Labuschagne looks lost at the crease and Head is a hot or miss option.
