    EPL Season 08/09

I know we have the tipping thread already, but I thought a seperate thread for general discussion would be good.

What did the Liverpool contingent on here think of the game overnight against Villa?

Rafa was pretty defensive, with Keane playing wide left to stack the midfield. Also, with no Gerrard, and Torres going off early, Liverpool were robbed of the two guys most likely to turn the game with a moment of brilliance. The way they set up suggests they were happy enough to come and get a point at Villa Park, which probably says a bit about where they see themselves. I think Villa are worthy of a fair bit of respect from the top sides, but you can bet that United Chelsea and Arsenal won't be coming to Villa Park thinking about getting just a point.

As a Villa fan, it was a bit disappointing that we didn't get forward with much enthusiasm until late in the game. MON made two relatively attacking substitutions, and by then Rafa had opened it up a little as well, but i think the change was mostly due increased urgency from Villa.

Despite the commentators reaction once he saw the replay, i didn't think Keane should have got a penalty. I thought the contact was incidental, and mostly after the shot. Perhaps an indirect freekick, at best.

Torres and possibly Gerrard to miss the Man Utd clash!
Where is our luck right now after we've strung together a few hard fought wins?

      Good post Pembleton.

I think Rafa went out with the intent of securing a point & an added bonus would have been if he'd have nicked a goal & got all 3.

As a Liverpool fan I was disappointed with his approach & don't know why teams change their structure when playing away. At the end of the day it's a football field with goals at either end. Get at 'em & score, that's what Manyoo will do (or at least try to) when they visit Villa Park.

Agree that it wasn't a penalty with the challenge on Robbie Keane.

All this Liverpool talk is making me a little ill

There was another game on Sunday, one I was lucky enough to score a coupe of tickets to......Chelsea v Spurs. As 1-1 draws go it was a pretty entertaining game with the Spurs midfield breaking even with the much vaunted Chelski team. Where Spurs fell down was in attack. Playing Darren Bent as a lone striker up front they were always going to struggle to convert possession into chances and to be fair the Spurs goal came with a good bit of play by Modric, forcing a turnover, and a well taken shot by Bent to beat Cech. Bent will be fine if he can get those one on one's running towards goal, but in the Premiership that is increasingly more difficult.

          Liverpool 2-1 Man Utd.

I don't think I've ever been so happy, Bulldogs winning a semi, my Black Ducks (WAFL) heading into the grandy, Saints beating the 'Pies and now this!

Dare I say it, best week of sport ever

Berbatov was unsighted after setting up the first after 3 minutes Excelled at Tottenham but will go nowhere at Man Utd.
