Re: Greatest XI in your time
you betcha.
Miandad was a champ. Feisty and brilliant. He had the ability to get up our noses and put us off then hurt us on the scoreboard. I thought he hurt us more when series were still there to be won.
Tendulkar's record speaks for itself however I thought against us he didn't deliver in crucial moments of a test or a series. McGrath often got him relatively cheap. It was Dravid and Laxman who hurt us more on those occassions.Listening to Brahm's 3rd RacketComment

Re: Greatest XI in your time
Here's my effort for the Poms.
I didn't include John Snow because he didn't tour in 74-75. He did play against us in 75 but I wasn't allowed to stay up late to watch that.
Gooch
Boycott
Gower
Randall
Pietersen
Botham
Greig
Knott
Gough
Willis
Underwood
That side would get slaughtered by the Australian or West Indian sides (oh, that's right, they usually did).
It's really hard to fill the middle order. Allan Lamb was probably the one I left out for Derek Randall. Randall was a gun fielder though.
Gooch was a certainty as an opener and Boycott scored 8,000 (very slow) runs so had to be the other - even if he was too scared of Lillee and Thompson to tour in 74-75. Boycott did make a big 100 at Lords in '80 (the game Kym Hughes made 100 in each innings and hit one clear over the stand).
Flintoff would also be close but Botham and Greig are my allrounders. Willis was a no-brainer and I went for Gough over Flintoff.
David Gower, Alan Knott and Deadly Derek were the easiest selections.
EJ Smith will be able to come up with a far superior Pommie side. Dexter, Barrington, Edrich Snr and Cowdrey would add a bit to their middle order.Comment

Re: Greatest XI in your time
As for the Doc's comments on Miandad v Tendulkar, its a fair point you make but its also worth remembering that Tendulkar could also be a very handy part time bowler, dangerous if not taken seriously.Comment

Re: Greatest XI in your time
Openers
Hayden
Smith (Sehwag backup)
Middle Order
Ponting
Tendulkar
Lara (Mohammed Yousuf backup)
Allrounder
Flintoff (Kallis backup)
Keeper
Gilchrist (Sangakara backup)
Bowlers
Warne
Steyn
I.Sharma
McGrath (S.Clark backup)
Only started watching during the 05 Ashes.
Batting order could break the record for most runs in a day. Ponting had to go at 3 because he is the best 3 in the world. Others who've played there didn't perform as well while the position has brought the best out of Ponting.
Did want to include players as raw as Steyn and Sharma but there aren't so many candidates outside Australia for bowlers that have done well.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment
