I suppose I mean the game in general.
Well too much is open to interpretation of the umpire. 3 main officials mean you get no consistency. Too often a free can go either way- no wonder OS people get confused.

In 100+ years of Australian rules, you can still smash someone out cold, be seen but continue to play and influence the game on the day. How is that fair?

But how do we get countries to even become aware of our sport?

That's why i think it's a bit dodgy to look at who watches the game rather than the actual game itself.

The european influence has been here since 1788 yet football(soccer) wasn't popular here til at least the 1970s.

        High School Musical?

Its 2009, we get plenty of exposure overseas, if the game was going anywhere it would have done so already.

I don't see it going anywhere either but i just don't see how it could ever really have "griped the world" from Australia TBH.

As I mentioned Australian rules comp existed before football(soccer) did.
We had our first National Soccer league in 1976 I believe. Its been around becuase its an easy game to understand and easy for new comers to learn, unlike australian rules is.

It could have griped the world quite easily if the rules were clear cut, it wasn't so confusing and hard for outsiders to understand.

I like the fact that Australian Rules is exclusive to us and the fact that you have to have a knowledge of the game to understand and enjoy it.

              World domination is overrated, IMO.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

One thing i can't cop with Soccer is how soft SOME players seem to be, roll around like idiots like their knee has shattered, then walk off like nothing had happened, yes, you see AFL players stage acting for free kicks, but they don't roll along the ground screaming in pain like a spoilt 9 year old!

My other gripe, it's SOCCER or the World Game in Australia, not football, afterall, we call our national team the SOCCERoos!!!!!

I don't really believe it to be that easy.

Its a media label from the 70s.
The national league is called Football Federation Australia and has been for about 5 years and all the state bodies are the same.

Followers of Aussie Rules haven't migrated to other countries and brought Aussie Rules with them like soccer fans have done. Sure, there's the odd league in Japan and the US played by ex-Aussies but that's not on the same scale as what soccer fans have brought to nations across the world. I don't care if Aussie Rules is only played in Australia anyway. It means we get to watch the BEST players of the sport play in one league rather than being spread out over the world.

Getting off topic a tad, but the NFL is a mind-boggling sport played in only one country on national scale.

Hasn't seemed to worry the Americans, as it's the most profitable league in the world.

Thats fine, but it's still Soccer, what type of ball do they kick around, a footy or a Soccer ball?

That's because in the U.S they consider themselves The World. Consider the "World Series", the NBA champions being called "World Champions", etc...

They kick around a football. Your arguements are flawed and you are making yourself look silly with this line.

As for the comparison with the NFL, the NFL plays a game in England every year and are considering adding a 2nd. They get 80,000 people to those games which are played at Wembley stadium. Once the AFL starts doing even a quarter of that we can compare the 2.
