Re: 90 Minutes of Play, 2 minutes of Excitement
Footballroos doesn't have quite the same ring to it. I don't mind soccer but the diving and low scoring can be frustrating. Sometimes I see the riots after a game and think if there were more goals to cheer for the fans would not be so pent upIf you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Re: 90 Minutes of Play, 2 minutes of Excitement
In Sydney they call Rugby League - Football. I guess its what you are brought up on. Personally, when I was growing up, in an area made up 75% of migrants, we still knew the world game as soccer and aussie rules as football, and I still call it soccer. At the end of the day, does it really matter. You either enjoy a sport, or you don't.FFC: Established 1883

Re: 90 Minutes of Play, 2 minutes of Excitement
You know where i'm going with this, over the past 3-5 years, there has seemed to be a push to call Soccer Football here in Australia, but i don't know about you, but all my life growing up in Australia, it has ALWAYS been called Soccer!..and the round ball always known here in Australia as a Soccer ball, sure, it may be an American term, but as far as i remember [apart from the past few years], Soccer has been an Australian term as well.Comment

They kick around a football. Your arguements are flawed and you are making yourself look silly with this line.
As for the comparison with the NFL, the NFL plays a game in England every year and are considering adding a 2nd. They get 80,000 people to those games which are played at Wembley stadium. Once the AFL starts doing even a quarter of that we can compare the 2.
I reckon you show the average person here a Round Ball football & an Aussie Rules fotball, not to Soccer fans, and the majority will call them a footy & soccer ball.Comment

"The rest of your post is irrelevent now you its shown you talk crap"- sorry, but I'm not sure of your meaning. Why is it "irrelevent" to answer questions asked, and to provide information requested? Is it "irrelevent" or simply correct? You asked me to check the facts, so I did. If you didn't want to read the answer, you shouldn't have asked the question.
If you're going to quote me, please get my words right. I never said "No one calls it football". I said "No one I know calls it football" and that's fact. Our club was born in blood and boots, not in AFL focus groups.Comment

I may well be making myself look silly, thats fine, but growing up here in Australia, it's always [apart from the past 3-5 years] has always been known as Soccer, kicking around Footy's & Soccer balls at school etc etc.

It's a good thing I'm thickskinned...the terms "idiotic" and "ignorant" could upset some people. And being accused of talking "crap"! Especially after listening to some Norf supporter throwing the word "retard" around at our players yesterday. Our club was born in blood and boots, not in AFL focus groups.Comment

Re: 90 Minutes of Play, 2 minutes of Excitement
Sorry, I meant the bit about the sport playing world calling it football... aside from recent years, I've heard the term soccer used most often. Then again I don't know the whole sport playing worldOur club was born in blood and boots, not in AFL focus groups.Comment
