Baseball is to cricket what checkers is to chess.

Good for children and simpletons who can easily follow it and it's all over quickly (T20, anyone?). Deep thinkers and sophisticates enjoy the mental challenge of chess.

I don't mind baseball. Have been lucky enough to attend a couple of MLB games - Detroit Tigers V Baltimore Orioles in 2005 & Pittsburgh Pirates V Texas Rangers in 2007. Both very entertaining - and that was in between innings!! Relatives are living in Pittsburgh, so we follow their teams - Pirates, Penguins & Steelers.

Except that they played for approx. 17 hours to win the World Series after player a further 170 games.

I don't have a lot of time for baseball but a heck of a lot of the game is mental and I'm certain that you don't understand 90% of the tactics of the game.

I think that comment strengthens Sockeye's argument. Unless you're joking and i haven't picked up on it.

You have it the wrong way around. Baseball is far more cerebral than cricket. I should know having played baseball for over 15 years and cricket for over 30 years.

It's typical on the net that every time you put up another sport for discussion you get the mandatory negativity and silly comparisons to other sports. I.E soccer and Afl immediately spring to mind. It's tedious in the extreme

Unfortunatly there are a select few that always bang on about not wanting this forum to be like Big Footy, yet act [on occasions] in a way very much like the fabric of that site, silly & immature.

I watched bits & pieces of it, was hoping the Angels got through [although i am not really a "fan"], i don't mind sitting down and watching parts of games, only recently got the new Foxtel IQ2 installed, and watched it in sensational HD.

I tell you what though, i wouldn't mind being on the same wage as Alex Rodriguez...

Sounds very similar to cricket, except you would say Bowl ball. AFL again is pretty similar handpass ball, kick ball, mark ball.

Most games have very basic elements, you not being able to understand the intricacies of a sport doesn't make it easy or a sport for idiots.

Maybe I'm not a sophisticate but I'm pretty sure 90% of cricketers are as dumb as footballers or baseballers.
Sure Shane Warne was a genius with a ball in his hand and with cricket tactics but was a grade A ****wit in all other elements of life.
Alex Rodriguez is a champion baseballer & grade A ****wit off the diamond.
The big difference is Rodriguez could pay Warne to clean his pool.

The other big difference is that baseball (and chess) is essentially the same game it was at the turn of the century. Rule changes are limited and the tradition of the game is part of what makes the game special. Cricket has sold its soul and bastardised itself repeatedly and is likely to be dead as a top level sport outside of India within our lifetimes.
Baseball hasn't had to resort to parlour tricks to stay relevant.
