    Re: Yawn

Took TCP to The masters today at Kingston Heath.

I don't play golf, but TCP does so with it being his Birthday I decided to take him along. It was the first time I had ever been.

Couldn't believe just how many cars were backed up along Warrigal Road at 6.30am this morning trying to get into the car park!

We were told in no uncertain terms upon entering that cameras were not permitted & if you were caught using them, you would be escorted off the course. As if! Everywhere you went there were people snapping Tiger left, right & centre.

I spoke to quite a few people in the galleries & was amazed just how many had travelled from interstate to watch Tiger.

I met a lady who was a keen doggies fan & she sponsors Mantis' favourite Bulldog!

There is no doubt he has a presence & certainly has golf on the map in Melbourne.

We were quite happy Tiger teed off at 7.30am. I'd hate to be there through the heat of the afternoon.

    Got some pics:

            ---

Anyway, for a thread titled 'yawn' and bagging Tiger's coming here, this has turned out to be more about how much we love him.

I love my golf and watch as much as I can, but had to work and no desire to push through crowds on a 35-degree day (soft, I know).

It's good that he's playing well, and we really shouldn't take these legends (and Tiger is a bona-fide legend) for granted -- they don't last forever and before you know it, all you have left are dusty highlight reels and youtube videos.

I still pull out MJ to watch once in a while, and savour every moment of Fed while he lasts.

I've got so many questions but I will limit it to two.

How did you get access to the jacket like that?

Did you try to walk off the course in it? "Hey, **** you buddy, I bought the jacket from home, get your own!"
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

                1. The lady from Telstra was doing a promo where you could get a pic & then download it & print it out, but at the time the system was down, so she let his wear it & I was able to take a pic.

                2. Not a chance with security about.

Think it was more devoted to the media frenzy than bagging out Tiger.

I have never been much of a golf fan, rarely watch it on TV and have never played a game in my life.

However I recorded the golf today and will watch it over the weekend for 1 reason only....Tiger Woods.

He is a "once in a lifetime" sportsman. Like Babe Ruth, Don Bradman, Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky before him, Tiger transends his sport and is bigger than the game itself.

Tiger's not so much of a "yawn" now, is he Twodogs

Shane Warne was a step ahead of everybody in many ways. He knew and understood the value of having no reputation to speak of when it came to blowing his own trumpet about being "father/husband of the year" (unlike Tiger Woods, Gordon Ramsay, etc..), and is now more popular than ever (and back with his missus ironically). Warney understood very early in the piece that by setting the bar at such a low level, you won't ruin your reputation because you won't have one to begin with

He's not so much a yawn because the general public now gets to get up on their collective soap box and judge the man. And that makes plenty of people feel great.

Tiger really is a man of the people.

                              1. Correct. 2. Who cares? 3. What does him cheating on his wife have to do with him being a shit bloke? It makes him a terrible partner but not a terrible person.

Not saying that cheating on your partner automatically makes you a shit bloke but it definitely is a shit bloke act to me.
