I'd have a few players ahead of him as a genuine test batsman.

As would I, but the point is on current form he would hold his own in our middle order.

That's why I think his best value if selected for the first test would be batting at 8 and as the 4th seam bowler on what appears to be a seam bowler friendly track.

          I would agree with that.

I am also not sold on having Haddin in the team

Disappointing result for the Vics today. They should have got the maximum points but couldn't break the Haddin and Clarke partnership.

Apparently Clarke batting under some constraint as well with a sore back. Lets hope he is ok for the first test.

McDonald back for the Vics had a nice return from injury with the sensational bowling figures for 3 wickets for 1 run of 3.3 overs. Shame he got injured again though.
He will need to bat well (if fit) though so the Vics can build a strong lead.

Another young one to watch who is having a great season and performed well again is James Faulkner. Genuine bowling all rounder, bolwers left arm seamers in the mid-high 130's and is a handly lower order batsmen. Having a terrific year with the ball.

Worth talking about on a couple of threads. He has had some impressive performances with the ball. I'd like to see him make a break through innings with the bat which would really confirm he is a player on the rise.
I don't think he is quite hitting the high 130's yet (stand to be corrected) but he will soon enough. From memory he was somewhere between 128 and one 134 during a bowling spell I saw.

Apparently his bowling has really stepped up this year in regards to pace, which is bound to happen as he matures. I remember watching him last year and he looked strictly military medium but this season, particularly early in a spell he has looked quite sharp. Will he have enough tricks as a bowler for the international stage, its probably too early at this stage to judge but the results are there. I'm not sold on his batting to be honest, technically he's very sound but I dont think he'll ever be more then a handy number 8 or
                        9.

                          .
Good number 8's are OK with me. Brett Lee for example was a handy late order batsman and got into some nice partnerships. If Faulkner takes that next step it will be because of his bowling so if he can develop his batting a bit it really will be a bonus. Tassie seem prepared to give him exposure batting as a number 6 or 7 which can only help.

James Pattinson has some ability with the bat as well. We might have a couple of good bowling all-rounders in a couple of seasons.
