The Vics got another touch up today. It was a fairly insipid effort with oith bat and ball.

Looks like it's going to be another of these 'interesting' seasons.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

If anyone wants to talk about this game in more detail - the ongoing magnificence of Justin Langer perhaps? - please just let me know.

I was fairly shocked to here during the commentary that the record of WA vs Vic in one dayers is something like 30-10 in the favor of WA. That is pretty remarkable...what is going on with Victorian cricket? What has been going on with Victorian cricket for the past 20 years?

Warne was an absolute stand-out (obviously).
Jones had more than a career.
        Ummm.
        Paul Reiffel was OK.
Damien Fleming took a hat-trick once.
        Ummm.
Hodge has been magnificent at domestic level.
Ummm. Who else????????? Matty Elliot maybe?

Am I overstating this? Watching last night, I saw the new kid (sorry, forgot his name) dance down the wicket the first ball he faced to Adam Voges. Fine. But his side was in trouble, it was the first ball he faced from that bowler, and he had only scored 1 or 2...did I mention it was the first ball he had faced from Voges?

Put it this way, did anyone not expect Hogg to get him with the wrong 'un next time he bowled to him? You have to be aggressive, but you dont score too many from the pavillion.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Hughes Mike. And he's a Footscray boy-you have to get it right.

Tony Dodemaide and Colin Miller are other Victorian (and Footscray for that matter) products.

Yep - Sorry. Add those three - but of them, it was only Hughes who made an international impact. But we have almost got back to Graham Yallop and Jimmy Higgs territory without hitting double figures in terms of players...

What has been going on? It might ALSO be about opportunity, but I am struggling to think of too many dominant shield players who have been overlooked completely.

What other Footscray boys played for Australia? Bright, Hurst and Eastwood?
Lenny Balcam didn't but was very good.

Harry Frei played 6 games for Footscray in 1973. Originally born in West Germany, he later moved to Queensland where he represented the Bulls in domestic 4 & 1 day cricket. When it was humid he was a prodigious swinger of the new ball, bowling his left arm medium pacers.
