First Test- Australia V Sri Lanka, Galle

Alright so here we are, the first test since Sydney, a new captain, two debutants and change is in the air, I cant help but be excited. Showers are forecast on all days of the test match and the Galle deck is renowned as flat but turning, one for the spinners.

The Aussie have confirmed there XI, with Copleand and Lyon replacing Siddle and Beer, Khawaja also won the battle with Marsh for number 6. I like the selection of Copeland, military medium who will keep it tight and bowl long spells, contrasts well with the pacey Johnson and Harris while also allowing us to play the attacking spinner in Lyon, I dont think they can go with both Beer and Copeland. Khawaja gets another chance to impress at the highest level.

    Aussie XI
    1 Shane Watson,
    2 Phillip Hughes,
    3 Ricky Ponting,
    4 Michael Clarke (capt),
    5 Michael Hussey,
    6 Usman Khawaja,
    7 Brad Haddin (wk),
    8 Mitchell Johnson,
    9 Ryan Harris,
    10 Trent Copeland,
    11 Nathan Lyon

The Sri Lankans are yet to name an XI but this is the squad, also a team in transition with the unreplaced Murali, Vass and Malinga but that batting lineup is all class
    *Tillakaratne Dilshan
    Shaminda Eranga
    Rangana Herath
    Mahela Jayawardene
    +Prassana Jayawardene
    Suraj Randiv
    Suranga Lakmal
    Angelo Mathews
    Ajantha Mendis
    Tharanga Paranavitana
    Dhammika Prasad
    Seekkuge Prasanna
    Thilan Samaraweera
    Kumar Sangakkara
    Lahiru Thirimanne
    Chanaka Welegedara

With a bone dry track, no grass expect turn from day one and a slow track. Id be putting a few dollars on the draw considering the showers and the grounds renowned nature as big run pitch. Its good to be back in the whites!

Having never seen Copeland bowl what does he push them through at? Is military medium 125km/hr +?

ex- Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss mentioned in the press this morning that the Galle wicket normally seams for the entire 5 days which will help our our seam dominant attack.

Yep pretty much tops out at 125-130 but will land the ball on a dime, nibble away and bowl long, spells without giving away an inch.
Cant really argue with Bayliss but I remember reading that in the last test played at the ground, in the very first innings spinners bowled 140 odd overs and took 9 of the 10 wickets. Clarke said yesterday that there isnt a blade of grass on the track, its a genuine dusty pitch and they are expecting turn from day one, dont expect much assistance for the seamers.

          Rain has delayed the start.

Australia won the too and elected to bat.

Currently 1/29, Watson out to spin.

Hughes gone as well, Herath is already getting massive turn and the game isnt 10 overs old, ball that got Hughes exploded off a length, could be tough for batters

5 down for 160 and we have a lot of work to do to post a decent score.

Dont think we will have an idea on a good score until Sri Lanka bat, wont go 5 days though on this wicket.

8 for 240. 4 players out with scores in the 20's.

All out for 273, brilliant 95 from Huss, played beautifully. This is a genuine dust bowl, could be a competitive total, few gremlins in the track already and I wouldnt want to be batting last.

We needed 340 in my opinion. Great innings by Hussey.

Only caught glimpses of our innings, but from what I saw we are probably 50-80 runs short of par, GVGjr's figure is about right.

Ponting did all the hard work and chucked it in with a shocking shot... For a 36yo coming off the worst 18 months of his career he really needs to 'cash in' when the opportunity arises.
