They certainly have been!! As soon as Big Sam "resigned", the pundits were saying that Shearer would be the next manager.......fact is he has turned them down. Early favourites are Harry Rednapp, Morinho (gets linked to every club), Jol and Jurgen Klingsman.
On Big Sam's demise, I have to say that he only has himself to blame really. Get a team like Bolton to the UEFA Cup and then dumps them once the hard work is really done for a perrenial Premiership bridesmaid. Yep probably got paid a lot more, but Big Sam is an honest battler of a manager, better at getting the best out of average players than out of high profile primadonnas.
His days were certainly numbered. They're a hard lot to please the Toon Army.
I've seen Steve McLaren's name also mentioned, but I think Martin Jol would be a better bet than most.
