Anyone notice the height difference in present day v yesteryear bowlers? ? The rise in the middle classes has ushered in a new era in indian cricket. Their bowlers did a great job and show a kind of aggression past players preferred to often control.

Thanks Jim. So that's 12 completed innings with only 2 scores over 300 or more.

They are on the decline, has nothing to do with a myth about being away from home. Even at home they struggled against WI when the pitch wasn't perfect (AKA the 1500 run game)

And Mark. 5 more completed innings for 2 300+ scores.

That makes 17 completed innings in total for 4 scores of 300 or more. I wonder if 20/20 affects batting techniques in test matches or if India just doesnt rate test matches anymore?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Twenty20 may effect batting, but it also demands more from bowlers, so bowling control may have lifted restricting scoring and forcing batsmen into errors in the test arena. Just a thought.

          Not a bd thought.
I've often thought 20/20 will lift the standard of fielding and bowling.

Agree to some extent, but it's a different skill to restrict or get a batsman out that is slogging for his life than it is to work through a test batsman.

Correct. A 5 wicket haul in T20 cricket isn't the same as in a Shield or Test match.

Seems there's not massive Shield totals posted in the last few seasons.Nobody screams out and makes outlandish big scores anymore!
Mindset of the batsmen has to change, the bowlers in T20 are on a hiding to nothing.
The batsmen are the ones under presssure.

That's part of the reason why the selectors aren't under as much pressure as they should be to drop Ponting. The middle order batsman around the country haven't been knocking the door down.

Taking nothing away from Clarke. He has batted magnificently and captained well this test. No question about it.

But I disagree with the "calling this Clarke hater out thing". Is he exempt from scrutiny now?

Clarke did fail. He has failed. It's been said quite a bit.

I've borrowed this quote from Sockeye in another thread. I don't know how to copy it directly so:

Quote - I was one who was critical of Clarke.

While it's good to see him performing well, this time last year he should have been dropped. Dropped doesn't mean forever, dropped means left out until you score some Shield runs (not 50 over or T20 runs, Shield runs).

In the last half of 2010 we played away series v Pakistan and India - 2 tests against each (Pakistan tests were played in England). In these two series Clarke made 174 runs @ 21.75.

He followed that up with five home tests v England where he made 193 runs @ 21.4.

In 9 tests he made a total of 367 runs @ 21.6. How many times do you have to fail before someone else gets a shot at it?

It takes a lot to get dropped if you are in the sponsors ads.

                      End quote.

It's hard to argue with his points. As stated in the quote he was consistently underperforming, and should have been dropped.

I think most people feel annoyed that while he has managed to put together some good knocks in the last 6 months or so, he has also had a tendency to be careless with his wicket when it matters. And it's frustrating.

Anyway, no criticism from me for his performance this test. Would love to see him string together some more consistently solid knocks from here on out. Time will tell, but we can only go on current form .

                      Cheers.
