Re: 2012-13 EPL Thread
You're probably right bt we pay 8-10 mill on mugs like Gervinho and Scamak and pony up around 100 grand in wages for each of them. Neither are one third the player Roney is. We have to get out of this buy cheap and hope like hell they will be any good mentality. If you buy cheap, you buy twice and then three times. Meanwhile players we could have got or retained instead of picking up mid priced duds are playing well in teams that are winning stuff.
Mmmm. I remember how happy we were when Bradford knocked us out of this years comp.
To a much lesser extent than even two years ago. Pressure on finances isnt anywhere as severe as it ws back then. Emiratres generates between 2 and 3 million pounds for each game. The stadium prints money. The puma kit sponsorship is 170 million pounds over 5 years. The club is doing alright for money. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: 2012-13 EPL Thread
See the point you're making but naming the winners is a little simplistic. Those clubs are powerhouse, Swansea are in the EPL and Brum are recently exited after years in the premiership. Point is that the strength of their squads would usually get them to this stage.
Arsenal have for years used the LC and even the early games in the FA Cup (3 rd) to blood younger players and it usually gets them to the last three or four games.
Yes its a trophy, yes there's prize money, but the prestige, financial gain and benefits simply aren't there for the bug clubs to make it a strategic goal.Comment
