The obession with an all rounder baffles me at times. If we dont have a good one, dont play one.
I think it might be a reflection on the thin nature of our bowling and batting stocks. When we were at our best around ten years or so ago, give or take, there wasn't a worry around having someone to supplement our batting and bowling line-ups because they were so deep.

As we've seen this summer, under the highest pressure our fast bowlers can't take enough wickets quickly, or stifle and end completely, and we don't have Warne.

Hussey had the career I always though Brad Hodge deserved. I'm not going to go down the path of nominating who was the better bat of the two, or importantly who was a better bloke and suited to maintaining cordiality in the dressing room. Suffice to say that Hussey took his chance with both hands and made the most of it.

I always hold in esteem batsmen that respect their wicket first and foremost, and use that as a platform to the required longevity to score runs. Hussey was an absolute rock, and will be sorely missed in the coming years as I'm not confident we have the cattle in the wings to replace him.

Well done on a great career, I say. And, well done in going out on your own terms if that's what has transpired.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Fantastic career from one of my all time favourite players. Hussey had the ability to bat anyway the match demanded, he could accelerate with the best of them to press an advantage, yet could graft it out in tough conditions to help Australia build a competitive total. Some of his efforts batting with the tail are still my favourite moments watching cricket.

Quite a shock that he retired when he did, but I guess that shows how rare it is in the professional era of sport for a player to go out on top rather than hang on for as long as he can.

Congratulations to a player who deserved it!

During that time we had the best all-rounder of all time - Gilchrist.

Brad Hodge was never in Hussey's class because of his failure on turning decks.

True. The bowling comment still stands.
