How can I have it arse about? He's supposedly managed it his whole Test career, right from his first game, yet it's preventing him from playing just as his form has deteriorated?

I'm sure there'll be a chicken-egg debate that could roll on forever, but if teams were still pitching up to him and targeting the stumps, and the runs were still flowing, I don't doubt for a second he'd still be on the tour. He seems to be Graeme Hick reincarnated.

Seems to me it's a form related illness.
Are you implying that his illness only exists as an excuse for his poor form?

Because that is a really really stupid way of looking at mental illness.

He's been struggling with the illness even when successful, as have others like Harmison and Trescothick. He could care less about what scores he is currently making, and he more than likely couldn't have cared less when he was peeling off hundreds. Every day would have been a struggle for him, and good on him for now taking the first steps to overcome this illness and take care of his health.

I think you've read this issue completely wrong.

We'll agree to disagree then. This isn't the first step, he's supposedly been receiving treatment for 4 years, this is just the first time during that period he's stopped playing.

I think we all have to accept we can only speculate as to how Trott's form is affected by his depression and even he probably can't say for sure to what extent one is causing the other.

I cant for the life of me ever imagine an AFL player coming out in the press to call another player weak. Very unprofessional by Warner.

To be fair to Warner, he didn't call him weak, just his dismissal.

Stache I think you are probably not in a position to speak about mental health based on your posts in this thread.

That's your opinion. Have a read of what some of the people who know him well are saying.

The reality is none of us are in the dressing room or close to the guy, back onto the cricket please. Does Bell move up or do they blood someone new to come in at 3?

Talk is Root at 3 and a new batsman at 6. Big challenge for Root, just as likely to break him as make him.

Wrong move for mine, its a bit of the Hughes treatment. Need to decide if he's a middle order player or an opener, Harris will be licking his lips to get at him with the new ball. They need to trust Bells maturity and put him in the vital spot.

That would probably be the best thing for team balance, but well established English players aren't known for being willing to risk their own prosperity for the benefit of the team. It would make a statement that the culture of the English team had changed if he did, but I'm not holding my breath.

Doesn't quite excuse Clarke - he is a captain. Should know better to resort to school yard antics. Do we expect captains to behave in a decent manner anymore?

GD, do you seriously believe that no other captain has not said anything similar?
More of an In Bruges guy?
