Another 50 for Rogers, using his first class experience to his advantage, solid again when the top order crumble.

He has a few limitations but he does put a high value on his wicket. He's been very consistent.

Our batting line up really needed someone with his experience and mindset up top to hold up an end given our past few years of trying younger batsmen who weren't necessarily ready to take that responsibility, and I don't care how old you are if you're in good form and shaping a side to win, especially an Ashes series.

Usman Khawaja and Phil Hughes will still have every opportunity to improve their game to make the national side, if good enough!

Agreed, in an ideal situation we would have a few younger players but he given he is performing so well he should be locked in for a while.

5 scores over 50 in this series is worth noting.

Bailey will need a big score tomorrow to hold his spot.

Don't think Bairstow would agree with that.

Balls shouldn't be going through the surface before tea on Day 2.

His fate should already be determined.

Value on his wicket is key. Was speaking to a mate about it today and both he and Haddin have done this. It's been crucial to our success.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Agreed he has a new lease on life and will keep the Wades and Paines out of the team for some time it seems.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

While I agree 100% with you the selectors still might give him the South African series if he performs tomorrow. A score of 70 or 80 tomorrow it might just give them the get out of jail card they need.

Haddin's average could have been a lot higher because he has been the 10th man out a few times throwing the bat around. If he was a selfish type a batting average of 80 for the series could have easily been obtained.

Haddin just about deserves to be given the player of the series award. Johnson has been awesome but Haddin has been hugely impressive.

100% Agree. Haddin has stood up and put in a rear-guard innings-saving knock when his team needed it time and time again. Johnson may be a match winner but he wouldn't have the chance to do what he has done if not for Haddin's efforts IMO.

Spot on. Without his efforts, what Johnson has done wouldn't have been the same. Haddin has delivered and enabled our bowlers to do their part - I'd be giving him the ever so slight edge on Johnson for the series.

Based on some the commentary late yesterday we probably don't need to bat long today but I think we should aim to bat out the 1st session at least.
My preference is that we should bat into the 2nd session as well. I think this pitch is a pretty good one despite the Bairstow dismissal. Rogers has proved that if you apply yourself runs can be made.
This is just a day 3 pitch and could very well become an easy batting track today.

I see no point in declaring to try and force anything quickly.

It works both ways RE: Haddin and Johnson. Without Johnson cleaning up England some of Haddins work wouldn't have been the same. I'd give a slight edge to Haddin but really how can a guy that has 3 MOTM in a 5 game series not be given MOTS?
