Hartford still have a loyal band of followers trying to get Gary Bettman to award them an expansion team. Save the Whale!
I was a season ticket holder with the Melbourne Bushrangers, as well as the Melbourne Monarchs.
My list of my favourite professional sports teams...
MLB - Los Angeles Angels
NHL - Toronto Maple Leafs
ABL - Melbourne Aces
Arsenal-I can remember looking at the First Division table and the team on top had a rude word in their name! They were for me.
Parramatta-have been since I saw Eric Grothe senior play when I was a kid. League used to be live on ABC TV in the 70s and most of my mates adopted teams.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

That is probably about all I passionately support other teams that I follow (but really don't faze me whether they win or lose) are:
NFL - Cincinatti
Bundesliga - Schalke
I like watching the A-League but don't support a team (suppose I should follow Sydney FC being local - but I like watching Adelaide play but I don't go for them).
Rugby League - used to follow Cronulla as a lad (I was a mad supporter going to loads of games growing up). That interest has waned completely and I am just a neutral supporter who only really follows it for the tipping comps but in saying that I like watching the Storm.
I also support Australia in International Australian Rules Football.

This is actually as interesting as the thread question itself: What led us to follow the other teams we support? Most of us probably inherited the doggies but chose these other teams. Here is my reasoning:
To start with i got into US sports through Michael Jordan and the Bulls - hence i fell in love with Chicago! However i was only a youngster then so things did change:
NBA: San Antonio Spurs - Massive Tim Duncan fan and once my childhood fettish for Jordan and the bulls died after his retirement, logic came in and the Spurs were the best fit (them winning the title in 99 is pure coincidence ;-) )
EPL: Man Utd - FIFA 95: Paul Scholes was an absolute jet. FIFA got me hooked on EPL
NFL: Chicago Bears - The Jordan/Chicago connection
NHL: Toronto Maple Leafs - Had to pick a Canadian team and their history (actually having one) won them over as well as my liking for Toronto the city - Similar to Melbourne
MLB: Chicago Cubs - The Jordan/Chicago connection and the fact they are eerily similar to the dogs in colours and history
My big brother tried to brainwash me into being a Spurs supporter back in the early 80's, but I wanted to support a team that wore blue like the Dogs. He suggested Chelsea and the rest is history, I can remember him teasing me about getting relegated but he's been pretty quiet every since. Poor fella.
