Marsh eased his way to a classy 40 odd before giving it away chipping one to point, White got a second ball inswinging cracker that had him plumb...not sure which is worse to be honest

And Maxwell has just pissed his opportunity against the wall, picked out midwicket with a slog sweep just as Australia were stabilising. He might not have a cover drive but he sure as hell doesn't have any game sense either.

I'm not entirely sure why he has the reputation he has. Is it just slogging and reverse sweeps that win the cheer squads he has? Faulkner has a heap more runs on the board with bat and ball, but I suspect if it was a choice of the two The Channel 9 cheer squad and selectors would pick The BS.

I think his first class average of 40 with a few centuries definitely helps that perception, he has batted fairly high for Victoria whereas Faulkner is rooted to 7 and 8 for Tassie. It's an average that is rarely tested out though because of how little first class cricket he actually plays! With the way the fixtures are set up he might get in 2 games after returning from an overseas limited overs tour before BBL kicks in and after that he is always around the limited overs squad. Its hardly enough to evaluate whether he can make it as a proper batsman nor is it enough to team him some composure and patience.

You would hope not but he clearly didn't grasp his chance. It was also a very good delivery that got him

Smith is just in awesome form, I'm really struggling to recall too many greener periods for an Australian batsman.

Despite the closer than expected finish, we were cruising pretty nicely despite having a few first choice players out, and it seems we should be fairly confident heading into the World Cup.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Michael Clarke 2012 where he broke Ponting's (Australian) record for runs in a calendar year surpasses Ponting post-Ashes and certainly Smith at this stage. A triple hundred, three double hundreds and a single hundred and 1600 runs in a calendar year is awesome. I haven't seen a better run of form than that with the bat period.

Maxwell is an entertainer not a batsman. How many times does he have to give his wicket away when the team needs him to stick around? We need players who can score quickly but also put a premium on their wicket. He's a 20/20 player and that's about it IMO.

This is the best I've seen Maxwell play, weight transference and footwork at the crease has been solid and his shot selection has been circumspect. Must go on with it at some point if he's going to grow as a player

Looking a little ragged about now, I just wish he didn't go too hard. He doesn't need to.

His first 50 was very good, he's lost it since. Has used every one of his 9 lives. Mitch Marsh is a nice contrast, is upping the run-rate just as effectively with classic cricket shots... and some brute force

I think it's getting rid of the beard. Shaving it off worked for Buddy Franklin. Maybe application over image can help some?

Gone for 95, the wicket was coming.
