Yep. A shame for him that his first game was clearly his best game and it was all down hill from there. He ecked out a couple more years at Carlton so more power to him.

And possibly the worst kick he ever kicked in his life wobbled through for a goal to put Footscray in front in the last quarter of the 2014 VFL grand final. God knows what he was aiming at but thank god it went through. Or was that the foot cannon from SA whose name escapes me?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

How quickly past drafting failures can be forgotten when reigning premiers is what we may call ourselves during the course of a preseason.

I vaguely recall several shouts of "Sign him up!" as he ran off celebrating.

Good weekend of games for some of ex's.

7 goals between Jarrad Grant (3), Hrovat (2), Higgins (1) & Reid (1) in winning sides, even Tahleeya managed a game for Sydney.

I'm still a bit gutted over the Hrovat trade.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Amen brother. I know the trade values were low across the board last year, but essentially just a third round exchange for Hrovat is way under what I perceive is his real value. In a team where he will play every week he should start to really bloom, and it's debatable where he would rank in our best 22/30 etc. Even Hawthorn in its dynasty had to let go guys who wanted more games like McGlynn, Kennedy, Savage, Ellis, Young, Suckling and many others. I guess that's the challenge of consistently recruiting very good players, if you keep nailing them then you have to lose some.

Someone raised this on Twitter but had we known about the 3rd man up rule being changed prior to the trade period would we have preferred to keep Hrovat over Jong?

It says a bit about a supposedly professional AFL Commission. It's making up rules as they go along.

Jong only averaged 1.5 hitouts per game last year, I can't imagine that would be the difference

Yep. Jong's real point of difference for us is his ability to run away from/out of packs bouncing the ball. If his decision making and kicking keep on improving he will be a very valuable player for us.

He's big and strong and fast, he can win contests and then get clear from them with the ball pretty quickly. If he can deliver the ball into the forward line a bit more constantly after doing all that hard work he'll be touring everybody's facilities if we can't find a spot for him.

Good question I'm not sure. Wasn't it more Hrovat wanting to leave for greater opportunities, which we couldn't commit to vs Jong, faced with the same situation, deciding to stay and back himself in? If that was the case I would have tried to persuade Hrovat a little more and embue some confidence that he is good enough to play in this team.

The ruck rule will negate one of Jong's key attributes, but having Daniel, Dahl and HC on the list provided some pretty stiff competition for Hrovat. My feeling is that Bevo tried to keep him and he may have been offered more money but the pull of greater opportunity to play at the elite level was too great, and that's far enough. He'll play a full year at Norf so who can blame him? He'll be a really good player for them.

I understand the position but to have HC on the list (and don't get me wrong HC is a real trier) and not Hrovat is a bit of a sword cut to me. I'd much prefer HC at Norf than Hrovat.

I surmise that Hrovat simply wanted out despite our best advances.
