I was pissed off that Adelaide were coming into the comp and we were losing players.

What a player just owned the near side of the ground at WO.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

A sensational player and one of the best I have ever seen play for us. I think Hawkins even offered to step aside as the captain if it meant Tony would stay because he was so respected by his team mates.

The hardest working midfielder I have seen for us and he was running just as hard if we were 5 goals up or 5 goals down with 5 minutes to play.

I used to watch Crows games on TV just to see him slot goals from outside the 50 metre arc. He was just a sensational player.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I kind of understood what the attraction was for him to go back but I hated the Crows for doing it and the AFL for allowing/encouraging it.

I don't even think that we got any compensation but I might be wrong.

We also lost Simon Tregenza when the Crows started.

I was just about to edit my post to mention that. We had him signed, sealed but not quite delivered

He must have signed a contract with us the year before because I'd been keeping an eye on his form in the SANFL in '86.

And coincidentally Simon Tregenza lives near me, said hello at the bus stop last week.

Not sure Tregenza was ever coming across. We drafted him at the end of 1987 and the Crows didn't come into the league until 1991.

Yeah, you might be right. I've just read some articles about him. He was only 16 when we drafted him and the 4 year hold that gave us expired on 1990. Although he does say if the Crowd hadn't started up he would have come to Victoria to play on 1991. He played in 4 SANFL premierships either side of his time with the Crows.

The word was that he was coming if the Crows didn't start that year.

I seem to remember that too but reading up about him now he seems to be denying that.

Like I said I had kept a special eye on his form for some reason in 90.

He was the first player to sign a contract with the Crows and the first player to get a kick in a match with them too.

Over the years we did have a few problems bringing players over from SA.
Phillipou stayed an extra year or two, Marker, Naley and Pitt also spring to mind.
