Haven't bothered to read the article, but Daniel Chick has apparently told all about toxic drug culture at WCE in mid 2000s.

Chooses Grand Final week to come forth, first year Eagles have made it since the 'glory years'. Maximising attention for himself without regard for those at the club preparing for their biggest week in years. Mustn't be satisfied with the damage already done.

He'd be doing it for the pay day and probably thinks this is the week he could cash in most. From what I understand Chick would have to sneak onto a bus for lack of ability to rustle up the money for a fare.

Interesting article in Theage about how Weagles lesser lights got them their last premiership and are often overlooked in the narrative. Injury-prone forward Ash Hansen was mentioned.

This line from the HUN made me chortle "The ex-Eagle has decided to go public after more than a year of private discussions with the Herald Sun". The paper would have had a huge say in when this all came to light, no doubt Chick is after maximum exposure but it takes two to tango

Buried half was through the sensationalism of The Age piece was a concession about Prednisone use, stating it's a banned drug. Does that mean just today, or in 06 as well?

If that was banned at the time, isn't THAT the story? A direct admission to use of a banned drug in season.

We all knew WCE had a bad drug culture...but pretty significant to have confirmed that club (presumably) doctors, were issuing out prednisone and other prescription/non-prescription drug en masse.

If Chick is saying that what they were taking made them feel invincible/not feel anything etc. Its hard to see how this wasn't cheating.

They beat us in a final that year.

Can't see what prednisone would do as its an anti-inflammatory and immune suppressant drug not an anabolic steroid. Prednisone will not help you build muscle mass,its is more likely to increase risk of infection, viruses etc., weaken muscle mass and bones.

Can't see Mr Chick being invited to too many Eagles functions in the future.
Quite a few of the posters here are having a go at Daniel Chick. Let's not forget, Mainwearing died from a DO.
Counsin's brain is fried. Direct or secondary influence, WC haven't ever really had to front the AFL to explain their side.
Regardless of Chick's blatant self interest, with the Essendon saga still simmering away, it's hard to see how Eagles can be overlooked.

The story says that he, Cousins and Kerr had medical exemptions from WADA due to their asthma but then goes on to say they never used it therapeutically but binged on it before during and after games.

I believe it does raise the red cell count, but from what I know it is predominately in older female users.
