Sometimes it pays to keep it simple. This is a good example. It doesn't need to be embellished....sure, if you want clubs to submit their nomination into a computer and then reveal it on a big screen instead of calling out the name, that's fine but in the end we just want to know who is coming to our club.
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

How would we have rated the draft if the bid for Ben Keays wasn't matched and we ended up with him and Dunkley at 25 and 26?
Its an interesting point - many pundits consider Keays should have been bid on earlier, and if he was, the Brions probably wouldnt have had the pick to take Skinner with, no?

I wonder who we would have taken if Collins had not slid down to 'BA' territory for us? We didnt expect him to, so we must have had a few other 'likely' in mind. Id love to know who.

Williams - when he got 56 possessions, where was the other team relative to his on the ladder? That's incredible.

Given needs were clearly a factor in this draft, would we have gone Keays/Dunkley or Keays/Collins?

Alternately, if Swans had've matched on Dunkley, after Keays was matched, we would've gone Collins/??????

Listening to SD's comments (5-10% chance of being available) I would've thought that the Collins selection was a given.

Just once, once, I would love to see SD do a lil' fist pump, single or double, for the camera. He's a very composed man for someone who brought his club a player against the odds!

And long may it reign there! Despite having had 25 first round draft picks they finished 16th in 2015 and are dropping like a stone. Yet their list management thinks the best solution is to load up on more skinny outside flankers. Gold!

I saw Scott Clayton in Elwood a couple of weeks ago. My son was with me. He is draft age this year. He's skinny, an outside player, and has played soccer most of his school years, but has had a few kicks in the park. I said to him, "thats Scotty Clayton, he loves smokies, looks like you're off to the gold coast!"

They were trying to mimic the NFL draft without the bells and whistles. At the NFL draft Roger Goodsell reads out each teams selection, generally to a chorus of boos mind you.

The AFL attempts to make this a "TV event" have been rubbish. The old system was only slightly better but at least it was quicker.

I reckon the problem is that the AFL have been half hearted in promoting the draft as an event. There should be a one hour show on Fox Footy every week covering TAC/state leagues, prospect and recruiter interviews and a far greater promotion of U18s and junior leagues. I really liked having the crowd involved on the night, but if they want to make an event of the draft, have a proper crack.
