Will not be missed. My memory of a standard Robbo interview with a player:

"What was your emotion when you kicked the winning goal after the siren. It's an emotional game, but that emotion must have been really emotional. How would you describe your emotions, just so we can understand the type of emotion that is in play when you are so emotional in an intensely emotional situation like that."

Peak TV journalism these days I suppose, but excruciating to watch. I probably should have put each mention of emotion in bold as well for the amount of emphasis he put on it.

Was it mentioned why he retired? Doesn't seem that old, though he often missed 360 a lot through illness.

Then why give him an ungracious send off?
I get he is not everyone's cup of tea but he's had a significant career and deserves a bit better.

He had a long career at the HUN, but I just don't like him as a person

I don’t mind Robbo. Not the greatest journalist but still provided some good insights into the game. Good luck to him for the future.

Robbo's written articles were generally ok, not like his rambling on-air persona.

My favourite Robbo was the Rocket and Robbo show when the use to both appear on SEN on a Thursday afternoon with I think David Schwartz and Mark Allen at the time.

For our younger supporters Rocket is of course Rodney Eade who coached us back in 2006 to 2011 (I think)
More of an In Bruges guy?

Does he deserve a whack on the way out given you mentioned he's had MH challenges?
I don't think he was very good on AFL360 but as a print jouno he did okay.
It's going to be a massive adjustment for him.

Robbo's longer profile pieces were often very good. There are not many journos doing those type of pieces anymore. It sounds like he had some seirous health issues over the last two years. Hope everything works out OK for him, but you are right G, it going to leave a massive void in his life.

Robbo wasn’t verbally articulate, however from what I saw he wasn’t malicious like some others. Seemed like a nice enough bloke. You can tell he has been or is a smoker, so his health wouldn’t be great.

Wish him a happy and healthy retirement.
                      Josie :)

I agree that his written journalism was mostly quite good and sometimes very good. He certainly was no muckraker in the Caro/Barrett mould. I am sorry to hear he struggled with mental health and perhaps that partly explains what I saw as an over emphasis on feeling/emotion in his discussions on air.

There was some discussion on SEN this morning about who might replace Robbo as the Chief Football writer at the HUN and Jay Clark and Jon Ralph were the names mentioned.

Does Jay Clark have the profile? Ralphy probably does.

I think Jay Clark does a bit on Triple M.

As an aside hopefully the best person for the job gets it, rather than the biggest profile.

As an another aside both Melbourne papers need a major journalist overhaul. They are seriously the same old tired voices.
