Very smart move by the AFL. I thought the dumbest thing they did this year was kicking off Gold Coast a week late. They need to build excitement, and as the first game of the year, every diehard footy fan will be watching, not just the supporters of either club.

If it (GWS v Syd) is anything like GC's first game this year most footy fans will be changing stations at 1/4 time.... but I guess that's no different to what happens with the traditional opener.

That game would create zero interest from diehard fans, it's going to be hard enough watch them play off in GF 's shortly little lone watch them when they are both DS.

I also think the AFL are trying to make a statement by scheduling this game on the same weekend as round one of the NRL.

Looks like we are set to play WCE at Etihad on a Sunday for the opening round.

We don't play GWS twice, nor Port twice.

I swear we play on a Sunday every round one.
