It's pretty hard to draft well with solid numbers when you have a level of success over a number of years. We played the Elimination Final in 2006, since then we have only missed out on finals once in 2007 (off the top of my head). So we have been a fair way down the pecking order. Everitt was a terrible selection at 11 granted but we have not exactly been blessed with top 10 picks over the past five years. I know that picks between 20-40 have not been great but there is a greater element of risk here. If we had just played a bit crapper bewteen 2006-2010 we'd probably have a good blend now, certainly a number of good players in the 23-24 age bracket.
Nine players drafted, all Gonski!!A complete disasterComment

Yes it will take the heat of Jones and is there room up forward for Cordy or Panos or Hill to have a chance. Will Cloke with a juicy contract still perform in his later years and all that money and the dogs luck could we have a very expensive long term rehab.
No I'm not a fan of Cloke and would like to give chances to our own or find some talent in the draft.
Food for thought.Don't piss off old people

Were you watching last night?
You may have noticed a few things. Yes he is a great contested mark. Yes he is very young. Cool. His kicking has improved this season but it's early days. He still travels around 50/50.
Watching last night's game, would you say he's worth over a million a season?
I can name several players who are just as good as him who are earning half of that.
It is complete and utter nonsense that you would write a blank cheque for Cloke.
If the club were knocking on the door of the top four, sure, why not? But we're going to need much more than a key forward to plonk in the square. You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. Re: Would we could we? Free Agency Ponderings #239
I will always remember the story of the blokes who were throwing ice from some apartments above a BBQ Cloke was involved in. Blood was drawn so Cloke and a few others went upstairs to sort it out. A pack of blokes beat the crap out of him. He didn't go outside or appear in public for ages. It's a massive psychological victory to see him playing well on the field and good on him.
But his kicking. His temperament. But finally, his price. If his new method of kicking continues to help him, and he came at the right price, I'd be for it. Barry was a risk in terms of his temper, but he was cheap and slots goals like clockwork.
We have holes appearing in other parts of the ground. Retiring players, Minson, who will be a free agent as well, competition, who will jack the price sky high. I just can't see us getting it done, with Freo and others knocking on his door, and will have to wait to the end of the year to sort out our priorities. Massive challenges coming up with the likely retirement ( next few years ) of Hargrave, Gia, Morris, Cooney, Boyd, Cross, question marks over Williams and other list related issues. You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. In terms of last night, Not at all. Take a look at his kicking stats. Since 2005. What's the first thing you notice when you compare to Kurk, Jpod or others? Clunks almost as many pointss as Goals. Around 50% is not a great conversion rate for a key forward. Not bad but not outstanding.
So again; how much would you pay for him?
Because we will have to outbid at least 3 other clubs to do it. Any kind of decision depends on what we need at the end of the season. For $1.2 million or whatever it takes - really depends on other demands on our list. Like I said, if we were knocking on the door of a premiership, sure. Take him.Last edited by Ghost Dog; 19-05-2012, 10:47 AM.You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. Cloke is a gun forward who is in his prime. Without a doubt if we signed him it would be a massive fillip for the Club.Comment

Oh and by the way....
- is there any excuse for being sworn at on here? mods? Hardly in the spirit of the forum.
Or should we all start talking like we're on Big Footy.
If you want people to respect your views, how about watching your language?
I have a view, and just because you disagree does not mean it is a shit view.
And I don't think other posters need you to defend them do they? Other posters are more than capable of debating their own views.Last edited by Ghost Dog; 19-05-2012, 10:23 PM.You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day.
