Solid when rucking, ordinary when forward. Would have liked him to half more contests and help keep the ball in our forward 50. He just doesn't provide a marking option in the forward 50 and once the ball hits the ground he is cactus.
"Loves a scrap....oh yeah & he's a pretty handy footballer as well"

I thought it was a pretty brave effort from our 'pups'. Couldn't quite go with them for the whole game, but we're on the right track. Proud of the effort.
Huge next 3 games coming up that should set us up for a run at finals.
Actually Chef it is a huge 4 games. We play Brisbane St.Kilda Carlton and Gold Coast.

How was your night at the Harts Hotel F'scary? Dissapointed I would imagine like all of us.
There were quite a number of Dogs supporters but the last quarter was the real dampener.
However, the pub had a really excellent 50's style rock and roll band playing called the Groove Tones. Sax, double bass, drums, electric piano and guitar. Very nice, indeed. Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, songs like Tequila and Americana. Between the Groove Tones and the footy there was a big turn out at the pub, very laid back, friendly atmosphere and a mixture of ages. Good to see.
And the sax player of the Groove Tones is a serious Bulldogs supporter. In between songs he was calling out to the bar to get the scores!

Yes currently where Tommy Boyd is in his playing career and Roughy and Minson playing ruck we seem very slow in the forward line.Maybe one big guy too many?

Love the Vic. Feels like a country pub on Saturday nights. The old guitarist from Daddy Cool often plays there. The half Parma is also superb. It's the last really old school Dogs pub left. I hope Dogs fans get around it. When Dogs are playing interstate, it's the go to venue of choice.
I had sick kids last night, so gave it a miss. Otherwise I'd have been there. I took some friends there the night after we played Box Hill. They thought it was "very different, quaint, old school, homely" etc. it's the last of a dying breed. I hope it hangs on, because developers tend to circle prime corner blocks like that one.

The band wasn't bad. Kick ass version of Tequila, they nailed it.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Hi Webby, the Council has placed some kind of heritage overlay on the pub but I don't how effective that is in terms of it continuing to operate as a pub in the longer term. You might be right - it could be the last. Let's see... The Buckingham has gone (turned into apartments), is the Mona Castle still operating? The Royal and the Barkly - gone. The Plough & the Station - truly great bistro venues but not quite pubs anymore. The House of Fools (Belgravia Hotel) - gone.
On a positive note, the apartment market is saturated in Footscray at the moment. I think there is little incentive currently to redevelop more sites.
Re: Game Day Round 10 2015 - Port Adelaide V Western Bulldogs
If we had of kicked straighter after dominating first half of first quarter game could have been a lot closer. Did well up until 10 mins or so into last quarter. Young side - understandable. Not too upset. Missed Picken particularly. Bonti has been off for a few weeks - good for him to recharge the batteries.
Got to improve delivery into forward line and build confidence to lead to make space to mark ball - Pt Adelaide a good side to learn that from so hopefully was a good lesson for the young ones. This will all come with time. I think we have the right coach so we must be patient.
My only thought was perhaps should have popped Fletcher into forward line in last half, but then again we did not have it in forward line enough to kick a winning score anyway in last half.
Enjoyed my first interstate game even though it was a loss. Pity about the two yobbo cheer squad chaps who swore a bit & said disparaging remarks about opposition players instead solely focusing on supporting Dogs.
Note to a few other supporter(s) in cheer squad who turned on their own players en masse in last quarter with loud remarks players could possibly hear - grow up and be a better cheer squad member please.
Go Dogs !!
Josie :)
Our day will come
And we'll have everything.
We'll share the joy
Just like '54 again.
Re: Game Day Round 10 2015 - Port Adelaide V Western Bulldogs
I think a move of Fletcher forward, Minson to full time ruck and Roughead back might have at least given us a semi-viable forward option once Boyd went off the ground.
I also agree that we missed Picken terribly last night, such has his excellent form been in these past four or five rounds.
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

The Mona Castle is still there but caters to a more upmarket fine dining crowd these days and not so much the wharfies and bikies that frequented the place back in the '80s. The Exchange is still operating but has more of a wine bar feel to it these days.
In many ways Footscray's best pub ATM is The Rev(erence) with a very vibrant band scene. They have international and interstate bands and a couple of months ago hosted the reunion gig for the Victims a legendary Perth punk band fronted by Dave Faulkner who went on to form Hoodoo Gurus. A lot of people I know idolised the Victims and had been waiting their whole life to see them play live.
But for watching footy, it's the Vic. Although I watched the Swans game at Barkers at VU Whitten oval with 500 people I ended up hugging at least once.
