I want him to take the next step.

I think we all do & I reckon he's more than capable of elevating himself into the 'elite' within the competition (then again if he played for Collingwood he'd be the Brownlow favourite, potential Hall of Famer & the 'next Bucks'!).

There's not too many capable of streaming out of the centre with the ball as Cooooooooons does, maybe Foley from Richmond.

One aspect of his game that I do feel people perhaps underate is his tackling, it's first rate!

He was very good yesterday.

But sometimes when he gets the ball, he looks as though he panics and just bombs it into the forward 50. That may be because his teammates arent talking, telling him how many hes got but he needs to relax and spot someone up.

Its useless racking up 30+ touches if they get wasted like a few of them do. Hes to good of a player to waste opportunities like that.

After round 1, I questioned Cooney's decision making under pressure (occurrances of marking the ball, then doing a blind turn without knowing where his player was, and having to kick under pressure, delivering ball wide of it's mark - on the flank on wing).

In round 2, I saw a much more consistant display (with none of the above). Many a time I likened Cooney to Scott west (in and under, putting his body on the line) and Mitch Hahn (strong bullocking play) - great attributes, but held back responding to my own comments.

In round 3, I saw a merging 'General' or 'Quarterback', directing play out of the back line with control, or running the 'lanes' delivering the ball to a leading player, within the 50m arc. A much more consistant and dominant display, expected from a number 1 draft pick.

If 'the Coon Dog' (not of the Woof breed), can maintain the form of the first 3 rounds, he would not only have grown as a player, but as a on field leader, that is badly needed with the older players having recently retired.

Agreed. That is the most pleasing aspect for me with guys like Cooney and Griffen standing up and demanding that they be counted. Their no longer content to allow others to do the work and are starting to get the most out of their potential, and by doing this, they pull a lot of others with them.
