Les Bamblett. Played a few games at Melbourne before he came to us and kicked 50+ goals in his first full season. He never came close to backing that form up but I'll never forget some of the games he played in 1985 feeding off Simon Beasley's crumbs.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

      oh damn you 1997…
That's brutal. I was thinking where James Cook fits into this conversation before I got to the above abomination of memories!

Just reading up on him to jog the memory, Cook kicked ten goals in the finals in 1997 as a 23 year old, four in the QF and six in the prelim (could have been seven and a match winner if not for a thrown apple) which is all you can ask of a key forward. After two middling seasons (2.1 and 1.7 goals a game) he goes to Melbourne in 2000 and kicks six in a game and then copped an injury that helped end his career at 26!!!!! Such an enigma, and honestly, a bloody good footballer.
      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Didn’t he also get suspended in the prelim?

          Good choice(s).

Drives me nuts when I watch any of our 2016 final replays and some commentators call him Hambling. I really liked the Hamster when he played for us in both AFL & VFL.

I guess I am older than most of this site's contributors, but by far the best discard this club has ever got was the great EJ. Ted first trained with Collingwood but was told to go away and put on some muscle. He came to the 'scray shortly afterward. Two other outstanding notables in those days were eventual Captain/Coach Ken Greenwood and Stewie Magee.

              Great post-thankyou Jeanette54. I didn’t know this part of our club’s history.

Matt Kennedy? Putting up much better numbers so far than I could have wished for.

Obviously wasn't trash at Fitzroy just always forget he donned the red white and blue! Am I right in saying he put us ahead against the cats in 1994 until Billy broke our hearts?

It's confounding how a top ten best and fairest from another club can be considered trash.

Matt Kennedy's always been a very very solid player. Our mix is bringing the best out of him and he's taken a step up. Trading in at its best.

In a roundabout way that trade might really end up being a positive for all clubs.
Kennedy is doing well for us in fact he's been brilliant.
Saints fans have been very happy with Macrae
And for Carlton, while it''s not a direct pick for player scenario, it's allowed them to play Hewett more in the middle and he's had a terrific season.

You would have to think that Kennedy so far has exceeded our expectations

Carlton supporters that I knew all regarded him highly so he's no Joe Hamling in terms of being a discard at another club.

I was pretty underwhelmed at getting Kennedy but more because moving Smith for unders and getting a recycled guy back just felt like a deep sigh. But he’s been unbelievable and realistically the player we’ve been after for nearly Bevo’s entire time here, a mid/forward who isn’t too much of a wanker to actually play there.

Correct. If I recall correctly, he had a very good patch when the heat was right on.

Going way back I'm going to nominate Harvey Stevens. He was residentially bound to and ecruited by Collingwood even though his dad was an ex Footscray captain. Played there for five years but was left out of the 1952 grand final team and ended up coming to Footscray in 1953.

ended up winning the B&F in his first season with us and starred in the 1954 grand final before becoming the first player to captain the same club as his father when Charlie Sutton retired.
