I'd be interested in a Naughton rating and I'd have him in the average category.
Libba? Yeah - was good. In and under. He played a Liber game...Could have missed some stuff but at his best his kicking vs his hands/pressure changes games and I didn't see that yesterday...

Naughton? I actually thought he was incredible - hitting the logos, taking contesting marks for fun...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

It was probably just the poor start and the fact that he should have kicked more. Happy to hear the thoughts of others though.

If we had to give 4 votes I'd go:

        4. Darcy
        3. Davidson
        2. Naughton
        1. Libba

A number of players unlucky. We had a decent number of other contributors which is a great sign. When it is hard to give your 4 votes you know as a team we have played quite well.

Naughton has missed a lot of club drills, but as the game went on he was getting back to what he does best.

Williams i thought was very average, big tick for Davidson, and Darcy boy he could be anything this year footy smarts.

While he played less than half a game, I thought VDM was on his way to one of his best games with Doggies.

Those two strong contested overhead marks were impressive, and unexpected.

Me too. He looked really fit and moved great. Bad luck to get concussed after the injury history which has plagued his progression

I thought that Naughts wasn't helped early on by the ball being kicked on top of him rather than out front. Barass marked everything early.

I appreciate why people were happy with JOD yesterday, I was generally as well. However, there were a few technique issues I had with his basic defending which I mentioned in the game day thread which a last line defender can't afford to make.

Mainly it's about the mark or punch decision and being caught between the two, and ending up double flat-handing aerial contests he's not going to win. At that last line he needs to figure out when to decisively punch to clear the area, and when he can clearly mark it. I don't mind him having a crack at marking it in a praccy, but during the season I'd prefer him to be taking the clearing option if he's not sure.
                        TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I'm fascinated by this "Barass killing Naughton" commentary.

Naughton lines up on an AA defender who's won B&F's at AFL level. He loses a couple of early contests. He learns from that, turns it around and takes over the game from a contested marking perspective....

Isn't that what you WANT? Players can't be perfect but what you want to see is them engaging with an oppo and working out how to beat them...if they do that and come out on top, big tick. The biggest of ticks. Shout out to the forwards coach as well...great job.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Agree totally the 1st couple of times he was out marked , he was out postioned , he definatly learnt from that and started to present futher up the ground , from that point on he out marked who ever was in the contest , credit to Naughton he realised very early trying to out position Barrass wasnt the way to go so he changed things up and became one of the dominant players on the ground. Thats a player who has been in the system for a while and can read how the game is unfolding , big big tick to Naughts, now wether that was an instruction from the coaches bench im not sure but what ever or who ever it worked .

I thought Naughts was one of our best, especially good running up the ground grabbing pretty much everything, for me that is his perfect role rather than just being left close to goal where he can get the sulks at times if beaten one on one, get on the bike and get into the game, be that link between the backs/mids and deep forward, the old CHF.

He and Darce worked well together , funnily both himself and Darce ended up with 3.2, Naughts with 5 more disposals and 3 extra makes than Darcy yet Sam got so much praise, although i guess a lot of that is more about what he'll be like in a few years and the expectations, but i had Naughton just ahead of Darcy as far as game ratings.

Sonny still seems to take the most difficult option at all times, regardless of what's best.

So frustrating as he's so close to being a footballer.

I thought MJP was incredibly kind to Gags as well. I was worried about his disposal coming into the game, and it was worse than I expected.

I'm not sure we can carry Gags in the back half of he's going to keep kicking it blindly
