Hopefully there is a plan soon enough that can give us some information and allow us to set expectations for balance of this season.

It sounds like it will be “indefinite” for a while though.
I've never worked with elite athletes but have treated 'average' people with tibial plateau fractures (cracks in the top of the shin bone, which sounds like it could be what Darcy has sustained) and their recovery was slow and unpredictable.

All fractures are graded though...a 'broken ankle' can mean about 20 different things depending on the exact location and type of break, and the knee is similar.

You're spot on that we won't know anything until he has had the surgery, because that's where the surgeons will decide how many pins they put in, how many different structures they need to repair, and what the post op recovery period will look like.

I guess my point was, he has not escaped serious injury. He's just escaped an ACL which we all know a lot about.

More so than the loss this year, I was really just concerned about how he comes back from an ACL, at his height, mobility etc it’s just something that I could see not being a straight forward recovery and an ongoing issues with reoccurrences etc

Him keeping that structure in his knee sound is just amazing news, even with the nasty injury he still has to rehab
Gia was the last one I remember for us. They thoughts is was the ACL, it turn out to be a partial acl and he only missed 10 weeks.

Last year Naughton hurt his knee and there were fears it was ACL, but it wasn't.

Very glad to hear it wasn't an ACL - even though it is still a significant injury.

I've fractured my knee cap - hopefully his recovery was as straight forward as mine with no ongoing issues - but this sounds a very different type of fracture.

Apparently Sam Darcy has avoided surgery according to Mitch Cleary? Can't see anything on twitter except pages quoting that so think it was on the news tonight. Latest I heard was that there was too much pain and swelling today to go ahead with the surgery and it would be scheduled for later in the week?

With the way it's going, I now fully expect to see him line up vs GWS.

                From Cleary:
The Western Bulldogs have opted not to pursue surgery for Sam Darcy. After meeting experts in recent days… they decided it was the best course of action. It gives great optimism to a return well before the end of the home and away season.

Back by June/July? I mean that's incredible given what we were looking at Sunday night.

Just hope we've taken every precaution and analysis necessary (which I'm sure we have). No need to rush him back. He's got a long future ahead of him.

I am curious how it's gone from suspected acl to potentially no surgery and only a couple months out.

Seems a pretty unique injury, we wouldn’t really know until the swellings gone down and a clearer picture became available - I’m sure we’ll take absolutely every precaution necessary with our prized asset

I'd never heard of it. Had to google what a impaction fracture was.

Not sure where else to write this but keep an eye on Will Darcy. Younger brother of Sam and eligible to de be drafted although he isn't on any Talent league teams or Vic metro. Playing in the APS and Herald Sun said he is a draft smokey and rated high internally. Don't think he has focused on footy like his two other brothers so keep an eye out. Sam was a big late bloomer in his draft year.

                                Thanks for that.

We have a father Son thread, but I can't find it due to the search engine.
