I don’t think it's as simple as 3 big forwards equals 3 big defenders. For better or worse, I think we'll maintain our preferred set up and try to damage them going the other way. I don’t want Coffield in that 3rd defensive role but I think we’ll roll with him again (I want to see how Sellwood handles things but probably too early for him).
As it is every week, the midfield and half forwards MUST have a big day out for us to win, particularly English who is going to need to do mountain for defensive running to give us cover.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.👍 4Comment

Jones is listed as a test on the most recent injury report I can see. Don't think he's in the frame.
Coffield was pretty poor in the first half but his positioning is always good so we can at least bank on him bouncing back and at least being part of the contest.
Harmes for McNeil seems like a no-brainer.

Thilthorpe is 201cm and Lobb is 207cm, Forgarty is 192cm, Coffield is 191cm and Walker is 193cm and JOD is 197cm. Is there really a problem on height?
My guess is Jones is coming in but it should be based more on ability than us actually being undersized.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

A lot of people use a form of a height meter but

Given we are the leading side in offence, and well behind in the defense stakes, should we not start to firm up our defense prior to the finals (well, given we get there). If Jones is to play a part, then we should start to see if he is a component of our best defense. Also given the choice between Cleary and Doc, I would think we would be better off getting games into Cleary. The truth will set you free,

Its more the quality of the other two though and the flow on effect from that. Lobb & JOD have shown they can both be taken advantage of and Thrillthorp is one of the hardest match ups in the comp, I don’t doubt Lobb can probably break even with him or go close but the flow on effect from that is we’ll completely lose what Lobb does best if that’s his mega task for the day.
Jones is still our best wrestling FB by the length of the Flemington straight, if he takes the job of Thrillthorp, JOD can deal with Fog and Lobb can do what he does best and play off Walker to focus on winning us back the ball and chopping out the other defenders in the air.
I can see why the coaches want to go with the 2 tall & a medium structure, and if we had a good medium then absolutely I’d probably prefer it too but what is Coffield offering that Jones doesn’t? They’re both iffy kicks, Jones has much better closing speed and better aerially, I just don’t see literally any, single, benefit Coffield brings over him in that role.
A fit Jones makes Lobb & JOD better, I hope we’ve been managing him with an eye on getting him back into the team because I’m not sure we can go deep this year unless he comes back and finds his best form
Would like to see Sellwood but it’s a pretty tough game to debut, probably better to ease him in after the Brissy game on the run towards finals if we see him potentially impacting👍 1Comment
