North Melbourne V Western Bulldogs R17, Thursday 3/7/25 at Marvel Stadium at 7:30pm
Bevo mentioned Coffield in his presser and was pleased with his game. I thought he was a bit shaky in the first half but did come good in the end.
Dale ended up more wing half forward in the second half, he was not playing well at all in that first half.
Coffield would be shitting himself week in week out due to his body and imposter syndrome. We recruited him for a reason and we'll keep playing him.
There were a few moments tonight where it wasn't great, but equally, there were a few moments where I thought this guy actually gets it. I reckon everyone at the club will be focusing on the latter and hoping he can improve on those efforts.
I'd be prepared to give him another month to let his talent shine through, unless it's an absolute shit show. Beveridge from his presser knows we don't have the blend down back right, but we're not helping due to our behaviours up field.
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.
Our back 6 are a worry in both their positioning and ability to defend 1:1, but they get little help from their teammates up field.
Their transition from D50 to F50 in the first half was way too easy. Our mids and high half forwards weren't working anywhere hard enough to close the space on North, which exposed our back 6. We fixed this on the run in-game effectively, but we can't be that profligate against the better teams.
They also got 5 goals from centre bounce, which is off the charts against us. I liked our turnover game tonight - we really made them pay as the game wore on. Again we were beaten at clearance, which is probably a positive that we are finding different ways to score than from our usual source.

I reckon we'll tighten everything up over the coming weeks, or at least hope we do. We've proved we can last year and much like 2016 and 2021 being frugal was a hallmark of our successful runs.
Tim's body isn't going to change from this point onwards and he's going to get busted up against most decent and well put together rucks, with exception of those who don't have the craft to match. I'm filthy we keep leaving him exposed goal side right forward pocket. As much as Tim deserves criticism at times he's not going to beat Xerri, Gawn, Grundy, and a few others like Darcy etc. and he deserves protection like any other player on our list.
And some kudos as well, his goal in the first few minutes was rucking 101 when you're at a physical disadvantage to your opponent. He punched Xerri in the face, Xerri respondend, but it was a good battle.

Gee 25k for that big of a moment for the Kangas is a bit sad.
Though they did get shafted unlike us and Hawthorn. Friday night at the G against a big 4 team should have been what they deserved to celebrate their history.

The next 2 weeks will show us how quickly we can fix our ability to defend ball movement, because both Adel & Bris move the ball as well as anyone. These tests come at exactly the right point of the year for us.
Agree with our inability to defend clearances. Surely we know that Tim is going to struggle against Xerri so we should be setting up accordingly… over to Lade & Geary to get that sorted out quickly.
I thought English had a decent game. He competed hard against a stronger opponent and certainly was more telling around the ground. I cannot recall Xerri taking more than 2 or 3 steps with the ball in hand or taking any telling marks. If anything, in the first half, I thought our mids were being outpointed at the stoppages. That's not all down to Tim The blame must be shared. Libba's response in the second half in particular was a huge factor in the win.

I didn't actually know it was their milestone game. Feels like it hasn't been talked about much maybe?

I really doubt is was 25K. More than half of the top level was closed. To their credit North put a lot of work into it.
That said I'm not sure how much of a crowd we generated for Libba's 250th

I would say only about 5000 - which is pretty poor
