In all seriousness we need a tall defender who can hit the pack and man hard when spoiling. Jones was that guy, JOD and Lobb are not those guys.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Bevo lamented our defense across the ground last night, singled out stoppage.
Our mids don't defend and haven't for ever.

        A flexible tall defender
An agile small defender who can shut down opponents
        A quick thinking small forward

I wonder if Croft can meet the criteria for the flexible tall defender?

Quality general defender who can help provide us with direction as Duryea did until our next defensive leader emerges (JOD?).

Nick Vlastuin please. Young enough but old enough to be GETTABLE and reasonably priced. Does everything we need.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Key defender who is good one on one, proven, and GETTABLE? Jordan Butts. Not in Adelaide's best 22, reliable and unsexy. Allows JOD and whomever else to develop in a more intercept role as he takes the Jones anchor role.

Winger who covers ground well, is a good decision maker and user and is GETTABLE? Luke Nankervis, also plays a bit of half back, is slight but good and hasn't quite been able to establish himself.

Vlaustin will be 32 by April next year. No thanks.

Sure but there is no way Budarick offers as much as him next year/probably ever, and he buys us time to find another defensive marshall and for a medium defender (Jaques, Sellwood, Gallagher) to emerge.

Can't see him costing anything either.

We need dangerous genuine small forward. We need a goal sneak who can crumb. Brisbane got 5 goals from crumbs and we have Darcy and Naughton where the defenders want to bring it to ground.
Need a small defender who can lock down on the Picketts and Papley types. Maybe a Sam Wicks might be gettable.

We need a few trades like Kennedy. Has been a great inclusion and a few others with his ability will improve our bottom players. We had 7 in the side that would not get a game for Brisbane. Lester would be in in their bottom 6 and he would jump into our top 15 if he came across. That shows where we are at as a comparison. We need to squeeze out some of the guys who are getting games because we dont have better options. If McNeil and Poulter are getting games next year its going to be more of the same. We need to trade and offer overs to get better talent. Surely with Macrae Smith Daniels and possibly Jamarra's salary we have money to spend. Even guys like Treloar, if he stays, is paid well under his current salary. We need to use salary cap wisely. We have 6 players on the list that we should pay overs for, and 35 others who should be paid below average. If we are paying overs for poor performers thats where we are going wrong.

Use the money for quality imports and not financially reward loyalty unless they are proven above average players.

                            Agree he is a ripper.

But he's a Tiger to the core I reckon.

If you look at the Crows inclusions in the off season in Peatling, ANB and Cumming it's not difficult to see why they've improved so much.

                                Alternate option: James Blanck.
Pushed out of the Hawks with an ACL last year and Barrass/Battle this year. OOC 2026. He's more of a 'stopper' like Butts but if we can work around him and have JOD/Buss as the intercept player deep and release Lobb to stay higher we can put out a workable defence each week.
