If the AFL is true to its criteria of returning to play health and capability then he should be ineligible for any change in landscape or move to play football elsewhere, given how far away he seems to be from playing at the moment.

He has a contract with us, it's extremely generous (especially in hindsight) and definitely enough to sustain him through his issues. The general consensus is he has little trade value this year, so I think the play needs to be to hold him to that contract, help him as much as we can, and ride it out to next year where he has either earned an extension or is traded for not much plus/minus what he might have been in October this year.

He's not enough of a distraction to give up on.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I think it would be nice if he could manage a couple of games just to get fired up for a full preseason. Even better still if one of those games is the VFL grand final and he bags 10 goals although his inclusion will be a bit unfair on who he replaces especially if that player has put in all season.

Is that based on gut feel or knowing something we don't?

Would think the distraction he's caused over the past 12 months would be wearing thin on our power brokers and if past history is anything to go by, we tend to move on 'distractions' pretty quickly, especially if there's no on field benefits.

          Gut feel.

Part of me thinks we feel he's our responsibility, or at least should.

No gurantees for us, it's up to young Marra.

              Great call jee.

He has been apart of our program for nearly ten years.

Were Hunter, Stringer & Dahlhaus also our responsibility?

Understand the circumstances are different, but at some point, the want to continue on ceases.... and I think that time is pretty close.

For whatever reason, and I suspect it's a number issues all intertwined, he just hasn't been able to commit himself to the demands of being a professional footballer.
There is still a bit more to play out here but it's going to be a minor miracle if he sticks with us past the end of his current contract.
Any decent level of trust is gone between both parties and it's almost to the point where we need to part ways.

I’m torn. I want him to be healthy and to succeed, even if it’s not with us. However I’m also going to feel big time regret if he becomes a star elsewhere.

                      I'm not overly torn.
I won't find it personally insulting if he goes elsewhere and reaches his potential. I'll feel a bit slighted if we don't get a reasonable result in terms of a trade.
Marra is Marra and his challenges are complex.
He will either find a way to push through it with us and knuckle down or he will request a trade and hope that a new environment sharpens his focus.

Agree. We seem to be on tail end of poor trade results in last little while. Not sure we could negotiate better though, given individual situations, as Power has the steel required of a good negotiator. Seeing Marra blossom at an another club would still hurt though.

Get rid of him. First round pick would be robbery (for us).

Doubt we’d garner a first round. Fire sale stuff. Unless there’s 2 clubs willing to take a punt, even then doubt a first rounder will be offered.

Feel he's a bit different than those guys, who in their own way were probably given a bit of leniency along the way as well - without the cultural complexities attached that JUH deals with.

JUH can't be mollycoddled forever, but his slide has been from the outside looking in all part of one prolonged episode. Everyone should get an opportunity to come back.
