Don’t leave me hanging...

On another occasion a small group of Footscray fans, incensed by the umpiring, marched on VFL house with a banner saying: “Sawers and Rich put Footscray in the ditch!” I’m pretty sure we hadn’t even come close to our opponents but that didn’t matter. (I wasn’t among them, just for the record..)
Yes back page of the Sun. I thought it read "put Rich in the ditch". Might be wrong.

I am reasonably confident. I was in the crowd in the forward pocket where it happened. Foster tried to hit it through for a behind but it hit the behind post on the full. The free was for deliberate or out of bounds on the full...not 100% sure on that.

I was down the same end and I think it was Foster now too. I can still see the surprised look on face.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

If it's the moment I'm thinking of, Vas Vasilou was the Umpire.

I've checked the AFL Tables Website (see link here https://afltables.com/afl/stats/game...719840611.html

No Peter Foster in the squad.

We used to stand in the pocket in front of the old scoreboard at Princes Park. I always thought it was Rick Kennedy.

I would love to see some replays of that. My recollection of the day is that we were belted but it was only 6 goals in the end.

The eight goals to one second quarter didn't do us any favours.

I think Sedat is right, it was Kellet.

                  EDIT: It was Kellet

Looking for some video I came across this:

I don't remember that happening. We stood in the other pocket to the scoreboard at that end.

I was at that game....at the 4.25 mark of the video you can hear the crowd chanting "Your fault Smith" aimed at umpire Kevin Smith, with Carlton getting their normal armchair ride from the umpires at Princes Park. (Footscray actually led the free kick count that day 45-36).

I remember being told by some cheer squad members that it all started with some Carlton fans standing near the Footscray Cheer Squad and "looking for a fight". At one stage someone yelled that there was a knife pulled and that's when people started jumping onto the ground to get away from the fight.

Well it is another game that I am thinking of. Got no idea of when but it was definitely Fossie hitting ball into behind post that I saw.
