Can’t drop him unless he is sore or exhausted, just keep playing him, he is one of those players that will just smoothly fit in. I notice he lowers his eyes and hits targets, something we lack at times, a great ball user and will get more and more touches as he learns his running patterns and the teams game plans.
He certainly has a tank and his second and third efforts would be second to none with any other 18 year old in the seniors I would think.

There is something special about him. That pick up and goal was sensational for a first year player.

It’s a meaningless award. But it’s a good yardstick group of stats on his first 8 games after we chose him at pick 6. Like Indiana Jones standing before the last knight at the end of the last crusade. We chose wisely.

I’d happily give him a juicy extension from what I’ve seen. The youngest kid laid 9 tackles in the freezing cold against men when a lot of his team mates have not even come close to laying 9 tackles at all in a game. I like he already can play ‘blue collar footy’ or ‘white collar footy’.

He still does little things that get you excited, the odd touch here or there in a pack. By god he has a high ceiling.

He looks like he’ll develop into a beast of a unit too. He’s already pretty chunky.

Whats the point in nominating him if he's not going to win it and let's face it due to the fact that he plays for the bulldogs he isn't going to win it. If the Bont and that fellow who's name we cant remember didn't win it (Bryan something?) the year they were so much better than any other first year player in the comp then no bulldog player will ever win the Rising Star.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Leigh Montagna spoke about him this week, saying everyone is focusing on Sam Walsh, but that Smith's numbers and two way running should not be overlooked.

It's not as big a false flag as we all think. Taylor over Bont was obviously a joke but that was 5 years ago and every winner since and most before have been very much deserving.

But doesn't that fact go towards proving my point? We haven't had a player worth winning the award for the last five years so we cant arc up about the fact that none of our blokes did. But both times we had a player (Griffin, Bont) who was so obviously better than all the other eligible players but still don't win then you have to ask why? If Griff or Bont were wearing different jumpers they would have won two Rising Stars each!
